All of you that are complaining about GW. If you really want to do
something, organize. Personally for now I will go on buying and playing
the Warhammers'. But if a serious effort was made to get GW to listen I
would particapate. You have a powerful tool at your fingertips. The
Internet. You can reach thousands of gamers. And a concerted and directed
boycott should make a dent in GW's armor. American's (no offense to other
nationalities) don't take this shit for long, we never have. Why do you
think most GW stores have closed in the US? It's because the bigwigs at GW
refused to sell games other than GW. They lost mega-business that way.
It's a whole different market over here. As several people have pointed
out. FASA makes cheaper materials. Heartbreaker does it (even if I don't
like them). And TSR. Jesus, they are some rich f*cks and their prices
aren't completely outrageous. You have in this newsgroup alone many minds
that could create an alternate rules system. Arules system that could
enable the use of any miniatures. Give boycotters something to play. And
it could be free. If every person on the internet could talk his friends
into boycotting, we'd have a pretty big movement. And I'm sure gamers on
other groups could be persuaded to write letters and spread the word as
well.

I don't think any of this will happen. People suck and not enough are
willing to try. But it is possible.

join in. The internet is a poweriful tool.

Exactly. Here we are spread across the US, UK, Spain, Germany.... If each
of us talked to the gamers at our local hobby store we could spread to
greater numbers...

Good point. I would like to boycott GW but I like their stuff to much
to go without. But, as you asked, GW is a big part of my life. Just
one of my two main ways to vent out steam and a way to escape life and
its mundane problems. So, if they keep on increasing their prices
then the game can lose its flavor. But, it is not like I will go to a
game convention and blow away ten people with a shotgun nor will I sit
in a corner and cry till my heart bleeds. I just know that JGerman
had a good point on the power of the internet. It does have an effect
on people. It got me to change my mind on a lot of things and the
Internet is a good way for me to blow off a few hours of the day
reading through the headings. By the way, you wouldn't love Dark
Elves would you?

I don't believe that I ever used the phrase "GW's atrocities". But you are
a prime example of why I belive this will never work. It's not your fault
it's just not a big deal. Personally I am the same way. I wouldn't stop
buying until I knew for a fact that we could make them lower their prices.
But what I pay now isn't too bad about $2.75 for a blister, $10 dollars a
codex. Of course if the lowered their prices by 25% it would be $2.32 a
blister and $7.50 a codex. Not much difference eh?

Man, where are you buying your stuff? I pay $5 for a blister, $25 for a
codex. I certainly wouldn't be bitching about those prices. Where do you
purchase GW stuff?

What a great idea! I think I'll join too! That is until the Tyranid
Codex comes out, and oh yeah, Necromunda, and whatever other cool figs and
games come out. Ok, forget it, I guess I won't join you, sorry.

Hey, let's face it, none of us like their policies, but I'm not SO upset
that it's going to be my life's work "to make GW pay for their
atrocities". Get real. Is GW that much a part of your lives? Maybe it's
time for some self-evaluation. Or maybe not, let's nuke the bastards!
Yeah, yeah, that's the ticket! What was I thinking of before, that must
have been my GW-loving scum-sucking alter-ego talking.

Ok, I'm calm, really.

$10.00 for a codex is impossible that's below the UK retail price so
either you are a shop owner who gets around 40 % discount on the
retail price or you are pulling our legs.

Yeah, but which country's dollar are we talking about? His sig ends with

definitely is not US dollars (and if it is, share the wealth, dude).

4 men squad blisters. Adn a fiver (5 pounds) for 1 wraith guard! Bummer!

I think you should get your arithemtic straight 25 % is a huge ammount, don't
formget you need at least 30 blisters to make a nice army and then the 25 %
makes a hell of a difference.

In that case I would recomend you to take a quick look at which mail-order
condition you have down there.

Actually neither one. I am the friend of several shop owners. The UK
retail price has nothing to do with it.

Just because you get charged more (supposedly,...I don't know the exchange
rate) doesn't mean we aren't getting ripped off too. Everyone is.

Everyone's been screaming about prices? You'd have a coronary if you
could see what they charge for GW stuff here in Japan (and it's not even
GW's fault). The value in US dollars is given at the current exchange rate
of 86 yen to the dollar.

Examples:

Titan Legions 10,000 yen = $116
WH40K 11,000 yen = $127
Epic Scale blister pack (3 Chimeras) 2,060 yen = $23
40K Terminators (boxed set of 5) 4,900 yen = $56
Warhammer Quest 14,000 yen = $162
Imperator Titan 5,000 yen = $58 (jeezus!)
...and it goes on. Everything is at least one and a half to two times the
price back home. Sometimes even THREE times as much (I saw an old copy of
Space Hulk for 15,000 yen!!) Not just GW stuff of course, everything else
is expensive too. But the GW prices are Unbelievable! However, I think
most of the extra charges go to the retailer and not to GW because of the
high import duties. Where's GW's distributor for Japan? Hong Kong? Can
anyone out there in HK tell us what the prices are like there? Yeah, the
yen is getting stronger, but it sure isn't making any dent on foreign game
prices :P
If you live here, like I do, even ordering airmail from the UK is cheaper.

Just for the record we pay:

$80.00 for Battletech
$50.00 for Shadowrun
$20-30 for D&D Modules

The prices above are Aust. Dollars which is quite depressed on the
international market right now. There is only a small gaming
industry here which does not compete with GW. And our taxes are
amougst the highest in the world.

For as long as I have been playing games (18 yrs) I have paid about
double the US prices for whatever I have bought.

BTW Dispite the Aussie dollar droping in value when compared to the
UK Pound GW has not increased prices which would significantly recover
all of the loss.

Geez. I'm glad we moved to the UK. We are charged about 20 bucks for a
codex and 90 $ or so for the 40K boxed set. It might even be cheaper to
mail order your stuff from the UK. I'll find out for you if I can.
