After reading all of the complaints about GW in this newsgroup I have
to comment that, with the exception of one person, the only thing I
have not seen in any of these posts is ideas on what to do about the
situation.

IMHO the only way to get the attention of GW is to hit them where it
hurts, in the pocketbook. The best way I can think of to do this is to
initiate a buyers strike against GW products. The only reason they are
able to charge the price they do is that WE, THE CONSUMER, ARE WILLING
TO PAY THE PRICE! If gamers out there would come together and refuse
to purchase GW products, whether they be miniatures, rule books, or
boxed games, for a period of one month, I think that would send a
fairly strong message of dissent to the people at GW.

Nuff Said! <Steps down of the soap box> ;)

I am all for boycotting GW except: I patronize a very small game store.
The majority of their merchandise is GW. A boycott would cripple or
ruin them. I'm sure that this store is not alone. I also don't see too
many alternatives to the 40k line (other than the defunct RAFM cyb-ork
line). As I see it, GW has us all by our respective reproductive
organs, and isn't going to let go. I buy non-GW when I can, but this is
rare.
I see no quick or easy solution. A suggestion is to support any and all
alternative sculptors one can find. I know I will. Get
rec.games.miniatures.marketplace upa nd running for these people.
Support the people who are publishing or trying to publish alternative
rules. I do. Greg is right about the consumer being powerful, but GW
is powerful as well. Since they seem to be the only game in town, a
sporadic boycott wouldn't hurt them. Hell, they even have a newsgroup
dedicated to their product line.
My point is that GW is too firmly established to be hurt easily.

Also, if anybody knows of a sculptor/company making space orks, I would
really like to know about it.

Guess what? The only people you'd be hurting is the poor retailer. They
are the ones who order the GW product from a distributor, who in turn has
ordered it from GW. GW only cares about the sales to the distributor,
they don't care if the product sits around on the retailers' shelves for
years, they've already made their profit from the products.

This statement obviously only applies to the non-GW owned stores (most
game stores in the US fall into this category.), and non-mail-order sales.

I really don't get this crap? Citadel miniatures are some of the best
on the planet! Their combination of size (compared to 25mm figs) and
detail makes them easy to paint nicely and are well worth the price of
a blister pack or boxed set. And for the rank and file models they
have inexpaensive, yet exceptionally detailed plastic figs... You're
damned straight I'm willing to pay the price!

PS - by not buying GW stuff you'll really hurt your local hobby shops
so if you decide to quit buying the stuff don't expect them to be
there when GW "comes around"...

Hi

Yes they do some very nice metal figures. But can you tell me how to buy
plastic Eldar?

Not if you buy the other minis there to...
I mean just because their GW stuff is expensive doesnt mean that their Ral
Pharta (sp?) is expensive.
But I'm a big friend of our store keeper so I will not boycotte GW. But I do
occasionally buy other brands for my marine army.

Okay!!!! Hey that sounds like a great idea!!! NOT!!!! Hey you pay for
what you get!! Personel I don't want to play a second rate game!! If you
think that you could put out a better product at the cheaper price go for
it. Other wise pay the price, and have some fun!!! Just think at the the
time that is being spent on this subject!!! When is the painting going to
get done? When are the Campagins and Battles going to be played?
