Well folks, here's the article from Bluesnews

http://www.bluesnews.com

Warhammer 40K MMOG Revealed [February 28, 2007, 11:19 pm ET]

THQ forging Warhammer 40K MMOG on GameSpot offers a Q&A with THQ and
Games Workshop revealing plans for a new MMOG based on the Warhammer
40,000 table-top series, which is science-fiction themed, and not be
confused with the fantasy-themed Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning
MMORPG. No release date is offered for the game, which is in the works
at Austin, TX-based Vigil Games, but here's a bit:

We are very excited to be working with Games Workshop on the first-
ever MMO game based on the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Our agreement
calls for worldwide rights, so we definitely plan to launch the game
across North America, Europe, and Asia. We are very early in
development, so it would be premature to comment on potential ratings,
but we plan to build a game that both Warhammer 40,000 fans and MMO
gamers will be excited to play--one that is true to the rich universe
Games Workshop has built--with scalable depth of characters and worlds
that MMO fans have come to expect.

All I can say is I hope it's NOT based on the Inquisitor rules
set, otherwise it's destine for a short life and quick death.

If I can be a Genestealer...

I must say that the 40k universe seems so rich. I am sure there are contradictions
all over the place between releases but it definitely seems like a great
setting for me. I'd like to see the tabletop RPG come out, too.

Everyone wants to be a Space Marine, but you know you'll wind up
spending hours harvesting the flora in order to farm gold..er..credits
or something. I have a different plan.

I want to be...an Adeptus Tech!

Leaping from tank to tank, as they drive across the grand battlefields
of the Imperium. The Giant Baneblade. The Rhino. Conqueror! The mighty
Leman Russ! The longbarreled Vanquisher! The plucky little cyclops!
The grinding landraider! The various non-canon conveyances of the
novels!

With my servitors by my side, we'd sing! Sing! Sing!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

I'm an Adeptus tech and I'm OK
I recharge all night and I fix all day

(Servitors)
+++HE IS AN ADEPTUS TECH, AND HE IS OK
HE RECHARGES AT NIGHT AND FIXES ALL DAY+++

I fix a tank. I eat my lunch.
Prayer's oblig'tory
At Matins I do maintenance
And put oil in my knees

(Servitors)
+++HE FIXES TANKS. HE CONSUMES HIS FUEL
PRAYERS ARE OBLIGITORY
AT MATINS HE DOES MAINTENANCE
AND PUTS OIL IN HIS KNEES

HE IS AN ADEPTUS TECH, AND HE IS OK
HE RECHARGES AT NIGHT AND FIXES ALL DAY+++

I fix some tanks. I whirr and groan
I like to press Xenos flowers
I put on Sister armor
And go to spaceport bars

(Servitors)
+++HE FIXES TANKS. HE WHIRRS AND GROANS.
HE LIKES TO PRESS XENOS FLOWERS
HE PUTS ON A SISTERS ARMOR
AND GOES TO SPACEPORT BARS++?SYNTAX ERROR?+++

I fix those tanks. I wear makeup
leather straps, and a claw.
I wish I'd been a Daemonette
Just like my dear Papa

IIRC WH40K started as an RPG (Rogue Trader), and eventually evolved
into what it is now.

I thought the worldsetting was cool, myself, but by the time I
acquired a shoddy, dying copy of the RT hardback, no one knew the game
existed in that form.

An MMO might be cool, though I'll look into the paper/dice version
first.

Rogue Trader wasn't an RPG. It was a table top battle game, with a similar
turn sequence to 40k as it stands even now, played between two sides who
move/shoot/assault against each other. I've still got the RT rulebook here,
along with a few of the support books.

Well its got a date of Feb 2008 for the RPG....and they seem to be doing
OK with WFRP releases so hopefully it will get there.

What does it mean in terms of 40K? Absolutely NOTHING! :) Lief is
simply commenting on the fact that as far as Europe is concerned (which
is where he's from IIRC) us Merkins write our dates ass-backwards with
our month, day, year, system rather than doing like they do which is
day, month, year.

It's why I put down the actual date as it would appear in the 40K system
and was giving them crap about being Heretics. However my cleaver plans
have been photon torpedoed. Bastards!

If you read the article Mr. Staley kindly posted "WH40K MMO" - it
sounds like it'll be more like 1.5 to 2 years before this is really
ready to go. And if you're familiar with GW's past attempts at computer
gaming and MMORGPs you won't hold your breath. While it would be nice
to see a good 40K game, I'm not overly excited by a MMORPG.

It's not so much that there's a date, just that it's the third date
they've posted since the 40K RPG was announced. The first was first
quarter '07. Of course, if it's been well written, well tested, and
captures the flavor of the universe, then no on will care that they've
pushed it back yet again. of course, this is Games Workshop.

Either way, there's supposed to be a "pre-release" demo booklet
sometime around GenCon in August. So something to look forward to in
the dog days of summer.

Its one of their subsidiaries - which often makes a difference. I'll go by
the good job the subsidiary did with WFRP rather than the mass of stuff I
dont like form the main line - for the moment.

because I think people should act like normal human beings instead of
acting like pissed off mongoloids lashing out at all and sundry
because their knuckles got scratched up from dragging on the ground?

further more, video games now represent the broad spectrum called
"gaming". Especially now that Warhammer is getting an MMO, Warhammer
is going to get associated with "the miscreants and hooligans" from
"that warcraft game".

of course.. since the Warhammer MMO is going to be way more pvp
centered than WoW is. With some luck, the miscreants will be leaving
WoW for Warhammer.
