WEB page was called "Painting banzai!"
I have written him mamy times and called his home. Every time he said he would
mail back my figs. He sounded sincere. But, this never happened.
So I hope that everyone else will be wary of him and not lose there money or
figs. (I lost both)
To think not only did I send multiple figs and pay in advance; I sent a special
character.
I also met a great painter. A professional, not a kid who collects money and
figs by running a con. So there was some good after all. But I sure would like
those figs back. If I ever get them and this string is alive I will post it.
Thanks for your time.
I've never used Doug's painting service, but I have traded with both him
and his brother numerous times (5+) over the last 5 years and I have never
had any problem with them - they've been some of the most reliable,
trustworthy traders i've had the pleasure of dealing with.

Well, I had less than stunning service when I did a trade with one of the
two brothers (I believe it was Doug) earlier this year. I offered to buy some
Armorcast Tyranid vehicles and some Gargoyles that they advertised (I believe it was
on Barter town.) I sent a money order for $75 - $80 via priority mail as soon as
we agreed to the deal.
Well, I have to email them to find out if the money order arrived. I wait a
while, and no package arrives. So I email them again (same email as above -
csc...@erols.com) and get a reply along the lines of "Oh I was delayed, but I'll
get it out tomorrow." I wait, and still no package so I write yet another email
and get "Sorry, I was delayed again, but it's in the mail." So I wait, and another
week goes by. So I email them again asking when they sent the package so I can have
the post office trace it. I don't hear anything (and I was starting to get ticked
off), so at this point I pay a visit to local postmaster about possibly having to
place mail fraud charges. Later that same day I finally get a reply saying "Oh,
the package isn't lost, I just haven't mailed it yet." At this point I'm really
unhappy about the whole thing and I write a pointed email with the "it's in the
mail" part of his previous email cut & pasted in along with the fact that I feel
that he's been deceptive about the whole thing and not mailing them. I pointed out
that he (they) have had a sizable chunk of my money for nearly a month and that I
still haven't received the items I was promised, and that if I don't receive them
soon, I will have to look to legal action to solve the problem. Sure enough, I get
the package 3 days later via priority mail. However I was even less pleased when I
opened up the package and found that some of the Armorcast vehicles had been glue
and or primered - which wasn't mentioned when I asked about the items, and that some
of the gargoyles were also glued and poorly primered, and not one of the 12
gargoyles came with the flight bases which he(they) also failed to mention.
Needless to say, that while I finally got the items I ordered, I found the way
they did business with me to be pretty shabby. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone
after all the foot dragging and deceptiveness about mailing my items via priority
mail (as we agreed to via email) and for failing to provide all the details about
the condition of the items when I asked about them. I definitely would have asked
for a lower price had I been given all the details, or simply not bought the
gargoyles. The items are in usable condition, but had I known, I would have been
just as well off buying the Gargoyles from "The Traveling Mage" or other online
discount store, as by the time I bought stuff to strip the old primer off and flight
stands so I could actually use them, I didn't save any money and ended up doing a
lot of needless extra work, plus the whole hassle of having to email them repeatedly
in the first place.
So, while Chris may have gotten good service from them, MRamoso's complaint
isn't seemingly a one time gaff. They seem to have a pattern of not being prompt
about keeping their word, and of even being deceptive unless push comes to shove.
After this incident, I keep very careful records of all email, prices, and condition
of the items, other person's address, etc. when doing a trade via email/snail mail.
Of the 20+ online trades or purchases I've done, they were the only ones who really
gave me any problem.

I certainly hope you will/have put a bad trader
notice up on ITL, as a helpful hint to the rest
of us since we will all forget this stuff in
about a month.

I also do custom painting for others, and my advise to anyone who is
willing to pay someone to paint figures: Do NOT pay for the painting
in advance.
I do ask for the miniatures up front, or payment to allow me to
purchase the figures for them. I do not ask for, nor want, the money
up front for the actual painting.
This way, if you never see your miniatures back, you at least are not
out the money for the painting as well.

This is Doug speaking on behalf of myself. I hope this post clears up a bit
of confusion regarding my trading status. I'll address points on a
case-by-case basis.
In regards to MRamos's elves, I do vaguely remember receiving them, painting
them, and sending them to him around March or so, after receiving a phone
call from him. Said phone call prompted me to mail the figures to him. I
would like to publically indicate that if he has not received them, I would
be more than happy to replace the figures in question and paint them for
him.
As for Myrmidon's Tyranids, bear with me, it has been a long time (in months
and in the hundreds of transactions that have taken place since then) since
the deal took place. I do remember that on my Tyranids for sale listing, I
indicated that some of the figures were assembled, some were primed, and a
few were painted. I also remember receiving a complaint about the bases and
offered to mail a blister pack of free flight bases to him which was
declined.
Everyone has to understand tha t internet trading is a very large part of my
life. Each month I have anywhere from 5 to 20 transactions. I would never
attempt to harm my internet reputation. My large positive feedback rating
on eBay (at least 178, it might be higher now, user account csc5sdc) as well
as my long time usage of the internet (6 years or so) should prove that to
you. In addition, I have nothing but positive feedback on the UGTZ, and
used to have many references on Bartertown before the good trader list was
wiped clean and moved (anyone remember that? a year or more ago)
As for MRamos's elves, this is the second time within a few months that an
item has been not received by the purchaser. The first incident involved a
japanese anime fansub video that was not received. I replaced the video
when the person to whom it was sent let me know that it had not arrived (it
doesn't take 2 months for first class mail to arrive). I'd like to
reiterate that I would be more than happy to replace his elves.
My old painting service was closed down to the public when I accepted a
commission to paint many armies from a single source, which I am currently
doing now. I've won many awards (including multiple first and second place
awards in regional IPMS shows) and have had mostly praises from my work.
I am currently an active seller on ebay as well as an inactive seller on the
newsgroups, and my years-long reputation should prove that. Thanks to Chris
Baginski for alerting me to this thread on the newsgroup. My brother and I
have traded with him multiple times in the past and everything has gone
smoothly. I certainly hope that all of my future transactions go smoothly
as well.
I'd also like to note that it's best to email me a few times within a
couple-day period. I receive dozens of e-mail per day pertaining to
transactions and it's easy for me to miss something. For example, in the
past few months alone, I have received 9490 email, not including mailing
lists to which I am also subscribed.
The other half of my email address, my brother Scott, has little to do with
my own transactions. He is not as prolific in trading as I am, and we also
have varied interests in addition to not living together (we just share the
same account since it's cheaper).
If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
Thanks,
Doug

Now, this is the right kind of response. Well done, that man.
