I would if it was recommended, but not without prior knowledge
> 8. What do you feel is the most important aspect of a miniature war game? Why?
> Must be both in depth and easy to play (tough combination). Games that are too shallow quickly become boring, while ones that have
lengthy.

> Very important on a individual based game (40K as opposed to Epic). Players like
to identify with some of their models.

predetermined spells.
A useful set of campain rules.

> QUESTIONS
> 1. How long have you been playing miniature based games?
Three years
>2. How many different miniature games do you play? Please list them.
Warhammer 40K, Warhammer Fantasy, DBA, DBM
>3. What is your favorite miniature based game?
Warhammer Fantasy
>4. Why do you prefer this one over the others?
I like the miniatures, and I like h-t-h combat games.
>5. When deciding to purchase a new game, what attracts you to the game
>(friends ,advertisement, the cover, art, etc.,)?
Believe it or not, the local stores have decent gaming rooms, and we
can play games, influence buyers etc. So what determines me is
whether or not it has started to gather a following at the stores,
and are
the owners supporting/promoting the game.
>6. How important is art work in a gaming book? Why?
Depends. Artwork can be a nice thematic influence, or it can be a
detractor. Especially if the artist isn't part of the game design
team,
who composed the piece based on his/her own interpretation of the
game, and not the design team's!
> 1) very important 2)important 3) does not matter
>
>7. Would you purchase a text only miniature game? If not why?
Yes. DBA is a good one here.
>8. What do you feel is the most important aspect of a miniature war game?
>Why?
The game rules need to be solid. No other factor is more important
than
this. Minitures, terrain and such all lie in the "artsy" catagory
(we all have
our own opinions, to include historical realism etc.). Strict
historians live
on realistic rules and will slaughter you if the rules are weak;
milder gamers
may straggle on for a while (hey -- I like it so I'm gonna play it)
until
opponents dry up.
>9. What do you feel is the least important aspect of a miniature war
game?
>Why?
Realism. Although I enjoy realistic simulation, it has almost
become
anathema. There is only so much "You must do this because it is in
accordance with the battle fought" that I can handle. Besides, if I
knew
for certain the Charge of the Light Brigade was gonna get
slaughtered,
would I bother simulating it? Games are simulations, and therefore
should
be accurate enough to meet the period requirements, but loose enough
for non-grognards to enjoy.
>10. Do you think/feel there are enough war games (sci-fi) on the market
and
>that another one is not needed?
No. I would like to see 15mm Sci-Fi myself; good, hard-hitting
laser-toting
marines charging into the fray gets the blood pumping (I guess
that's why
I am infantry myself??)
>
>11. How important is it that a company supply miniatures to
promote/support
>their rules/game?
Most. If you are not committed to bringing me the best product you
can,
if you are not willing to keep it up-to-date and fresh, if you are
not willing
to publish erratta when needed (and hold firm in your convictions
when
not), then you have no business to my money. I work hard for my
income; I sleep in freezing rain, I march for days on end with
heavy
equipment on my back, and spend years away from my own family
to provide for them and meet my entertainment needs. It is a tall
order
indeed to meet my requirements for getting my support!
>
>12. Would you perfer a game that has its own background but allows
players to
>use any type of miniatures?
Yes. It would be good if you had "official" miniatures, but if I
could
supplement them with other quality castings then I would be more
inclined to play the game. Of course, there really is nothing to
keep
me from doing this anyways, except when it comes to conventions.
>
>13. How important is it to be able to create your own unit/character?
Why?
> 1) very important 2) important 3) does not matter
1) I have been doing 40K for some time, and although I enjoy the
game
and the characters, I feel that I am missing something when I have
no
chance to build my own unit and history, my own legendary officers,
etc.
>14. How important are characters in a game?
They allow you to identify with the unit more closely. Hordes of
nubian
warriors are but fodder to be mowed down, but Clan-chief Hunna, the
Leopard-lord of the plains, he will be played more carefully. It
adds the
extra "umph" in suspension of disbelief.
>15. Would you prefer a game where units determined the outcome and not
>powerful characters?
I have heard this complaint specifically for Warhammer games, but in
and
of myself, I disagree. I believe that it is generals and good game
play that
win battles, not special characters. I cannot tell you how many
times I
have lost to an army with no special characters in it at all. He is
a general
I respect, and fear . . .
>16. What are some of the things you would like to see in a sci-fi
miniature
> game?
There is a large lack of element of surprise in a lot of games. In
standard
skirmish rules, you move here, shoot, hack, run away. But, if
there was a
sort of hidden-movement system, where pieces weren't placed on the
board until you came within sight of them, or if there were some
random
events tossed in (Your marines are closing on the rebel stronghold,
when out
of the ground burst a horde of ALIENS, gleefully slaughtering any
and all
within sight . . .). You get the picture.
