Welcome to the Visions in Color showcase. Every attendant will take the same
miniature and make his vision how the lump of metal shall come to life true.
This event is similar to a online painting contest, but is NO contest.
The Visions in Color event is intended to give YOU the opportunity to show
other people on the net YOUR style and ideas how to interpret a certain
miniature. And of course it gives everybody else the opportunity to get
new inspiration to improve his/her own style and skill.
Now you may say: "Yes, cool but I have seen some pictures of other peoples
paint jobs and I think I can not compete in their skill". Again, this is not
a contest. I have seen many excellent paint jobs by newbie painters, because
they had a good feeling for color or some other great idea that hit me.
YOU HAVE TO ENTER ;-)
For the 9th VIC I have comissioned a special limited VIC miniature, sculpted
by Werner Klocke. You can order it from my website
http://miniature-painting.net till the 27th of April 2003. We will produce
exactly the amount of miniatures ordered till then. Afterwards, the
miniature
will never be available in any form again.
You can see some pictures and place your order on
http://miniature-painting.net.
Some more informations:
- Each mini costs 4.20 EUR.
- Each person may order up to 5 miniatures.
- I have made my best efford to minimize the cost of the mini and the
shipping while ensuring, that all expenses are actually covered.
- I will request the money in EUR. Paypal will automatically exchange this
into your currency.
- The payment will have to be made before we ship the minis.
- Dominic Heutelbeck will handle all payments and shipping.
- The production may take up to two weeks. Packing another two weeks. So you
may start to expect the mini about 5 weeks after the 27th of April.
- The shipping cost I note here for Worldwide shipping will enable me to
send
it anywhere in any case. Depending on the volume of the orders in
combination with how many orders order how many miniatures, the shipping
method will be surface- or air-mail. It is impossible for me to determine
this upfront, because the costs depend on the final numbers.
- The deadline for ViC #9 will be set when the miniatures shipped. Please
send
in your entry to dom...@miniature-painting.net until that date. The
pictures will be posted on http://miniature-painting.net as soon as
possible
after the deadline.
There are some general rules for the Visions in Color show :
- Conversions of the miniature are permitted/encouraged.
- Decorative bases may be added. If you want to do a vignette, do it,
if the vignette or small diorama underlines your interpretation of
the miniature.
- Please provide pictures in a resolution between 400x400 and 800x800
pixels in JPG format with a file size of 70kb or smaller. A head shot of
100x100 pixels would be appreciated for the purpose of a thumbnail. All
pictures should be optimised so the file size is small as possible without
too much loss in quality.
The size of file for the thumbnail should be about 2kb. Please use the
following naming scheme : "vic9_FIRSTNAME_LASTNAME_NUMBER.jpg" for the
actual pictures and "vic9_FIRSTNAME_LASTNAME_t.jpg" for the thumbnail.
replace "FIRSTNAME" by your firstname, "LASTNAME" by your lastname and
"NUMBER" by the number of the picture. The pictures will be displayed in
the
gallery in the sequence of the numbers you gave them.
Please no special characters in the filenames, and make sure the file
extension is ".jpg" in lower case.
- Please write some words about your ideas and techniques.
* What was your original idea for the paintjob.
* Reasons for the choice of colors.
* Overview of applied painting techniques.
* Anything special you did or want to say.
- Please send your final pictures, thumbnail and text (in plain ASCII text =
write it in something like "notepad") to dom...@miniature-painting.net
who
will upload them to the official gallery.
- Additional pictures from different angles (esp. back side) and details are
welcome.
- Don't send the pictures and then a week later send in the text. And don't
send in temporary pictures. Send in your final pictures and your final
text
at once. The VIC is now pretty big and updating many entries this way is
too
much work. We will consider your first pictures and your first text to be
final.
- Please do all this before the deadline of the ViC show.
- Don't show pictures of your finished piece anywhere on the internet
(private site, eBay etc.) before the official gallery is online. This
would spoil the fun of the event.
- I forgot one main thing : HAVE FUN !!!!!!!!!!!
I hope this quite long list of rules does not discourage anybody.
Now, get your brushes into action ....
An information page with these rules for the ViC is available on my website
too : http://miniature-painting.net
If there are any questions left, feel free to ask.

This is a historical miniatures groups. The figure you are suggesting
everyone paint is . . . what period exactly?
Moreover, why do you think we are going to pony up $4.00 or 4 euros or
whatever, for a fig we can't use? (to say nothing of putting in the
time to paint it to a standard we would claim as our own in a public place)!
Might I suggest you try this with a historical figure -- like just about
any period. Further a command figure might be picked up by a lot of
folks if it's a limited run -- much more so than a rank and file fig.
You might have a good idea here but, sorry but not interested in the
figure you propose.
