i just got the rules brother against brother and man i just skimmed over it
and know that this is what i want to play, very easy set of rules.

ive been looking for some very good 25mm ACW figs.

so far i've narrowed it down to:
Dixon
Old Glory

dixon looks better, is this really the case??

what is considered the best? (im looking for correct poportions, exacting
detail)

Personally, I think the Redoubt ACW figures are the best available.
They're followed closely by those from Sash & Saber and Foundry. I'd rate
Old Glory a distant fourth and Dixon fifth.

Brian,
I do not have ACW from either of these ranges, but do have other
figures in some of their other ranges.
At a vague comparison, I prefer Mark Fenlon's 28mm ACW (
http://www.users.bigpond.com/markfenlon/ )
I find his cavalry adorable, and his infantry quite nice.
I am afraid the only other ACWish I have are some Foundry Indian Wars
guys, and Fenlon's are a little taller, and true to life proportioned.
Some one else will need to comment on how Mark's figures stand
alongside other ranges for height and girth.

I use Reboubt and Sash & Saber for my ACW 28mm figures. Both of these ranges
provide a wide variety of poses in each package. The Reboubt line is also very
extensive. Both are 28M on the Barrett scale. Cost is about $1.60 for Reboubt
and $1.00 for S&S. Foundry figures are nice, but they are costly ($1.65) and
are smaller (25M) than the others. The new range of figures by Mark Fenlon are
great with good variety, but they have thinner proportions than the other large
25mm ranges (28L), and you must order them directly from Mark in Australia at a
cost of about $1.20 per figure including P&H. I have been burned by Old Glory
in the past (poor casting quality), however, some folks have indicated that
they have improved of late. >>

I picked up some sample figures from Renegade (UK) - they are quite
nice. Their new line of 28mm ACW figures will be out in December.

Mark Fenlon does have some great figures - I took a look at Historicon
and was impressed. The three-figure Gettysburg vignette is a nice
piece of work. His cavalry is superb.

"Brother Against Brother" is a very nice rules set - it's around
$15-16 and is well worth the money for skirmish gaming. Every now and
then Ivor Janci will publish a BAB scenario in The Zouave. Contact him
at zou...@owc.net for details of specific back issues with scenarios
that can be used for 25-28mm ACW gaming.

Have you looked at Mark Fenlon's figures? His miniatures are wonderful and
inexpensive. http://users.bigpond.com/markfenlon/
I used some of them for my 28 mm Battlecry set and would have used them for
the whole thing had I known about them.

If you go for one of the other two, I prefer Old Glory by far. Sash and
Saber makes nice figures also.

Check out Homegrown. New and growing. Some very unique offerings. Just
now releasing some artillery. Limber, more guns, and lots more infantry
in the short end of the pipeline. Most reasonably priced of all the
25mm ACW out there.
