Gungriffon is a game for the Sega Saturn from Game Arts, the same company
that brought us Slipheed a few years ago. It is one of (if not the) best
arcade-style mech combat game around.
This started out as a mech for a friend of mine in a game we are in (she is
not familiar with the construction mechanics so I volunteered to do it).
This writeup is actually a little different from the one she is using, and
closer to the "original" version, since the game's current guidelines are
that nothing in MZ+ is currently available, and we have 150 construction
points to work with. This design uses beta armor and a little bit of space
efficiency.
I could have used a Pod servo for the right arm, but the rocket and missile
pods are flimsy enough that I preferred to hollow out a regular arm servo
to give them some additional defense. Given the beta armor I could have
used a smaller servo, hollowed out more space, and still had something
reasonable, but I went with a little space efficiciency instead, especially
since all the weapons are in that servo.
If you are using fuel for flight systems in your game then do not add to
the mass; the flight capabilities of the Sega version Gungriffon is limited
to about 30-40 seconds unless the pilot can find a refueling point. The
mass of that much fuel in Mekton Zeta terms is negligible.
It does have a few weaknesses. Obviously, it puts all its weapons in one
basket; if the right arm is destroyed it becomes unarmed. :) The jump jets
are similarly clustered in the torso. Ammunition is limited, so for an
extended campaign extra ammunition will need to be carted along somehow. A
good pilot and support team should be able to make up for these deficiencies.
And yes, even with the stuff from Zeta Plus it still comes in at under 150
construction points.

world to break into factions warring over what resources are left. Most
nations are still using late 20th century technology (tanks), though a few
years ago several nations began fielding walking humanoid machine gun
platforms and two- and four-legged artillery pieces. The HIGH-MACS
(Gungriffon) is the next generation combat machine, with armor superior to
its predecessors, greater mobility, and better armaments. It is an air-
droppable assault unit capable of taking on 20th century MBTs. A favorite
tactic is to use its limited aerial mobility to leap above tanks and punch
through the lighter turret armor.
