The whole book are illustrated by Earl Geier. And hey, he CAN draw good.
Especially in the Btech Compendium. When it comes to faces and persons, he's
really good. Theres an illustration of elementals in the Twycrossbook. Some of
them are pretty decent. And Kai Allard's hatchetman are pretty good too. And
they are ALL near-human shape, or close. See where I am getting? Geier should
stick to personnal, not mechs. Hey, and I allmost forgot... there's a picture
in there too with an locust and some heavy/assault mech's, and the locust are
HALF the height of the others. Nice work Geier! >:)
On the other hand.. One artist that I DO like, and whom I think is the best
Btech black and white drawer is Rick Harris. Both the Mechwarrior 2.nd edition
and More tales of the Black Widow are REALLY nice mechjobs. In mechwarrior,
Geier paints most of the personnel. But, hey! I would rather prefer Rick
Harris. Just take one look at N.Kerensky in More Tales of... Uhm...:)
As coverart goes.. Steve Venters rules. The other covers are good too, but
Steve is the best! :)
So... What do ya all think?

That Loose guy from TR:3025 (who made a return in TR:3058 - thank God! The
Readouts he didn't draw in looked awful!) is darn nice.

Steve's not too bad. :) But as far as artwork in general goes for the BT
Universe, I'll throw my vote in for Les Dorscheid. He rocks the house!
(Sorry Steve. *grin*)

Yeah, Rick Harris does pretty good Mech drawings. They're not
spectacular, but never look like crap and are usually pretty good.

Totally agreed here. I have a Bold City Graphics shirt of a Vulture
painted by Venters, and it absolutely rocks. It's the vulture in
the original compendium. BTW, who's the blasphemer that did the cover
for the new compendium? It's *so* ugly.

If I'm not mistaken Loose is a lady not a guy but I could be wrong.

I've always thot so. Dwayne Loose did the first two TRs and when he
left, everything just went to hell. My favorite illo he did was of the
Hatchetman. For some reason, it looked much better than anything else in
the book and was probably instrumental for my latching onto it as my
favorite mech.

I think some of the best stuff FASA had, artwise, came from Venters (who
did some really cool tech for a Traveller fighter-bomber in an issue of
Challenge I can't remember), Gary T. Washington (who then did some stuff
for R. Tal. and went to places unkown), Jeff Laubenstien (possibly the
best, his illo of an Awesome and another of an Atlas were my faves), and
Dwayne Loose (who I'm told made a recent return to the fold with some TR
30-something).

The Battlemaster and Marauder always kinda inspired me...

Dana Knutson: A few good ones, I like the Marauder2 in the beginning of
MW:2nd ed.
Rick Harris: Some good, some bad, but most are pretty good.
Mark Fullerton: I hate to be negative, especially since I like to draw a
lot of Btech stuff, and hope to someday be a FASA Btech
artist, but this guy's art makes me kinda nauseous. His
faces and bodies look out of whack and the stipling(I
guess) doesn't work.
Earl Geier: Some are OK(pretty good), but many are bad :( . His people
look a lot better than the 'Mechs(most of 'em), but most
of the faces look kinda flat w/ eyes spread a little far,
but maybe that's just me.
Joel Bisk: REALLY GOOD!!! I love this guy's style! Wish he'd do more!
Jeff Laubenstein: GREAT!! I like his color stuff a lot more than some of
his B&Ws tho..
Ray Lederer: Pretty good :)
John Paul Lona: REALLY, REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!! F'n'A man!!! And I'm not
just sayin' that because my style is a little like mine
(his is a LOT better tho)...Has anyone noticed he wasn't
credited in the Periphery SB? I know I saw some of his
art in there...
Mike Jackson: hmmm...some are good, but what was that in the Comstar SB?
Dave Mackay: ...okay...I like the pic. in MWCompanion pg.76
Chris Moeller: WOW...I LIKE the character pics in MWC <drooling>
Christina Wald: Like it!...Shiny effects w/ sharp lines...looks kinda like
she mixed a B&W line drawing w/ a color pic. and printed
in B&W.
Allen Nunis: YESSSSS!!! Love it! WOW! 'mechs or not...this guy is
awesome!! One question tho... does anyone else get this
Star Wars 'feel'?
Tony Szczudlo: Shading was cool in Unbound...Cover was awesome for
Comstar!!
Peter Bergting: Blocky, kinda weird, but I like it anyway:)!
Larry MacDougall: WOW!! This guy RULES!!<drool drool> I especially like
the 'washed' look(is that watercolor or pencil?), it adds
a more 'realistic' look to Btech. Probably my favorite
artist. I like the battered Hatchetman trudging across the
feild (Periphery?)and the female prisoner in the Chaos
March SB.
That's about all I can remember right now, I'm gonna have to go back and
check who did that cheesy art in the good ol' pre-clan days...It's kinda
what inspired me to start drawing Mecha type stuff("I think I could do
better than that"was one of my quotes often back then).
Does any one know who did the character art(awesome) in the Chaos
March SB? I couldn't find any sigs...also, does anyone know who did the
"comic-book"ish art in the Mercanary's Handbook? This style, mixed w/
JPL's style is probably more like mine...(I really wish I had a scanner so
I could put'em on a web page or something...drawing is just too
frustrating for me w/ a mouse) Oh well,

YESSS!!! Loose rules! The best TR artist ever! (Well, the guys at Victor
Musical(?) did the Comstar and IIC Mechs pretty awesome too...)
Especially like the new Sovetskii Soyuz(sp) Battle Cruiser, although I
kinda miss the old Potempkin & Black Lion...

Yup, the IIcs are kick-butt. the new Soveitsky Soyuz is also kick-butt. All
other 2750 re-makes suck. (I still don't have a 2750, who was the artist?)

I agree. Loose is just about the best darn artist they could've picked
for the job. I like the Warhammer IIC the most. It rules!!
