This thread on rpg.net makes a good point about the Battletech Universe
beyond the Clan Invasion and the later FedCom civil war.

http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=556918

It seems as though the cohesiveness of the writers just disintegrated after
a certain point and the storyline just became a series of interlaced
Charlie-Foxtrots.

I'm curious as to what the Battletech players here (if there are any left
on r.g.m) think?

(DISCLAIMER: This isn't intended as a kerosene wick, but I know just how
volatile the topic of the CBT timeline can be).

we can have a crazy, bionic Locust pilot to contend with."

"No thanks. And the moral of the story is: don't run in the city."

"No, the moral of the story is: Locust pilots are the weirdest."

Not even sure what is going on in the universe as I haven't gotten much of the
new series books and have stuck with the real series as long as possible.
Usually the convention games I play in are battletech and pass on the new
version.

The MechWarrior Click-game doesn't even exist anymore, and the "old" universe
is
still moving forwards, we're now in 3085.

I'm not sure I think I'm a Battletech player anymore. I certainly haven't
played for some time.

Setting-wise, I'll have 3025 and the Unseen, please. To me, that Warhammer
stomping along is always what Battletech looks like. Most of the later
mecha designs for Battletech ranged from merely mediocre to the painfully
awful, and although the 3025 setting doesn't actually make sense (hardly
anyone can make 'Mechs anymore but they get chewed up like popcorn, tanks
are cheap as dirt but no-one just buys a thousand of them...) at least it
isn't utterly ridiculous like the Clans.

And then there's game mechanics. What Battletech really needed, to cut
down on the way the combat system's a bit of a crapshoot sometimes, was a
whole bunch of headcapping weapons with longer ranges than the AC/20.

Fundamentally, though, I think the issue is I don't believe in "initiative
and move in rotation" games which don't have large enough numbers of units
that the game doesn't come down to an initiative rolling contest.
