Hi:

Been Googling like crazy but can't find a valid or undead link to Taiwan
scoring.

I basically need to find/create a crib sheet that I can hand out to friends
who are more used to HK MJ but want to try Taiwan style.

If someone can point me to a working link, I'd really appreciate it.

Thx

Someone

I found a Taiwanese website about the 16 tile rules + a list of scoring
hands.
It's in Traditional Chinese so your Cantonese friends (are they
Chinese?) can read it:

http://kosti.tripod.com/mahjong16-big5.htm

Dealer Extension - 1 fan/tai each
Zi Mo (win by self pick) - 1 fan
Men Qing (concealed hand) - 1 fan
Feng Pai (correct triple/quad of wind) - 1 fan
San Yuan Pai (triple of dragon) - 1 fan
Edge/Central/Pair waiting - 1 fan
Hai Di Rao Yue (winning on last tile) - 1 fan
Gang Shang Kai Hua (win on Kong supplement) - 1 fan

Ping Hu (all chows) - 2 fan
San An Ke (3 concealed Pongs) - 2 fan
Tong Zhu Hua (bouquet of flowers/seasons) - 2 fan each
Quan Qiu (stealing all 4 melds) - 2 fan

Men Qing Zi Mo (fully concealed hand and self pick) - 3 fan
Peng Peng Hu (All Pongs) - 4 fan
Xiao San Yuan (Little 3 Dragons) - 4 fan
Hun Yi Se (Half Flush) - 4 fan
Si An Ke (4 Concealed Pongs) - 5 fan
Qing Yi Se (Full Flush) - 8 fan

the rest are specials. I think this website might be wrong, because
certain combos are missing, like Yi Tiao Long (Straight flush) and Ni
Gu Ni Gu (7 Pairs).

Alternatively, you can find a book called "The Book of Mahjong" by Amy
Lo. It has the scoring for HK, TW, and Shanghainese mahjong.

There are two English sites that describe Taiwanese rules, listed in FAQ 4b.

P.S. I'm stifling the urge to use sarcasm in this reply! (^_~)

Thx, but those seem to be for playing with doubles scoring and not point
scoring, which is what the HK'ers are using for Taiwan rules these days
(i.e. 40pts for NikkuNikku or all pairs + the extras).

There was a teasing message in the group's archives which have a few of the
scores I'm looking for (Re: Taiwanese Mahjong Sep 1998), but it was mainly
focused on the flowers and no-one followed it up.

Unfortunately, those are two of the dead links I was talking about.

I have checked your site, which is very informative.

Thx

Sorry about that. I am 100% sure that the Taiwanese scoring in Amy Lo's
"The Book of Mahjong" uses actual points (tai) and not fan. I shall see
if my school library has that book next week, because it's now Easter
holidays.

If I recall correctly, Qing Yi Se (full flush) is somewhere around 100
points, but I can't remember anything else, so yeah, I must search for
the book. And I also checked Chinese google, literally all the
(mainlander) websites for TW MJ are fan instead of tai, so it is
frustrating.

Yi Tiao Long (Straight Flush) and Ni Gu Ni Gu (Eight Pairs and a Half)
is not a former scoring element used often.

Taiwanese Mahjong is played with points scoring, and there's a basic
winning points for a hand.

yes, but, unfortunately not in English.

Even babelfish missed many of the characters :(

Oops. OK, I fixed a bad link, deleted the dead Steve Willoughby link.
Hope Willoughby's page is still up somewhere - it was a true account of
Taiwanese "tai" scoring. rag.com is now devoted to the game of
Ragnarok. Thanks for the heads-up, sarc.
