Wasn't all this discussed before? And the result wound up
being Adam Cadre's Spring Thing? The annual comp where
only fully completed, completable and beta-tested games are
submitted. That is your comp for more stringent quality
control.

Is there a link I can go to for the 2004 Spring Thing? Is there a "calendar
of events" somewhere?

There is an IF competition calendar somewhere, but I can't
find it.

This link:

http://www.wurb.com/if/award/23

Will take you to some info about Spring Things 1 and 2.
Not sure about the timing details for 2004, Adam Cadre's
site is not updated on the comp....

Er, actually, there was little enough interest, and I've been
busy enough, that I wasn't planning to run it anymore. If anyone
else would like to adopt it, either with the same ruleset or
something entirely different, be my guest.

(Lyttle Lytton 4 will be open for submissions starting
January 1st, though.)

One thing I noticed, having just read over the complete Google Groups
archive of messages containing the phrase "Spring Thing," is that
despite few actual entries, over the last two years Adam's comp has
cropped up more and more in casual group conversation. Lots of people
are wishing authors would hold back unfinished games for the Spring
Thing, or mention it as an example of a credible alternate venue to
the main comp. It's starting down the long road of becoming ingrained.

For this reason, and others, I think keeping this competition running
would be highly valuable to the community. I am certainly willing to
help out in the process by investing time and energy.

Is there interest?

oh, ya, two events, one at the begining of the year and one at the end
of the year would give everyone enough time to make terrific stuff. it
seemed like alot of the comp games where rushed this year. The E.
Chamber was just getting good when it quit. more time and maybe more
good stuff ehh??

As a player, there is interest.

Maybe you should also ask the hypothetical authors that only read
raif and never check rgif?

Seconded. I doubt I'd have a game ready by that time, but I'd be happy to
play and judge this year.

I was actually planning on releasing my WIP in the Spring Thing,
though it's about a year away from being finished.

I am interested. I will help. I have a WIP that I wasn't planning on
entering that should be completed in the April timeframe. I was pretty
eagerly anticipating it as a judge and a personal deadline anyhow,
though.

I think if Adam still wishes to pass on the torch, somebody needs to
take on the role of official coordinator. Probably not me, 'cause I'd
worry about potential conflicts with the IF Ratings site. I will
gladly help in other ways, though.

Perhaps we should also take a show of hands of folks who imagine they
might be participating, or have a completed WIP ready for showcasing
during that timeframe? I know several other comps have historically
happened at around the same time, though I don't know which ones are
happening in 2004 (Art Show, IFlibrary Comp?)

In any case, the place you want to go is

Enjoy! (and then check out the ricotta polenta with braised green

'well' as the first line of a novel:

Tom only hoped that, with so many other options "vi"ing for his

(a) That wasn't a proper Tom Swiftie.

Yes, I will be doing the IF Art Show again next year. I foresee continuing to
do it for the next couple of years. (April approx.) Of course, the running time
of the entries is supposed to be only 45 minutes.
