Major Changes at Kiseido USA

Dear Kiseido Customers and Friends,
This is to inform you that there will be some big changes taking place at
Kiseido this week. One thing that will not change is our e-mail address
and the fine products that we offer, but almost everything else will.
First, Kiseido will be closed for business beginning Thursday, August 15th
and will reopen on Monday, August 19th.
Next, Kiseido is moving from San Rafael, CA, down to Los Angeles, CA. Our
new snail-mail address is:

And our new state sales tax rate for shipments within California is:

If the above address and phone numbers look suspiciously similar to those
of Yutopian Enterprises, this is because they are just about the same:
the new Kiseido Publishing Company distributor in North America is Sidney
Yuan, owner of Yutopian Enterprises. Sidney will be operating both
companies, Yutopian and Kiseido, as separate businesses, but you will be
able to satisfy all of your Go needs with just one toll-free call.
Kiseido and Yutopian have not merged; they are merely being run by the
same person. What the future holds in store for the two companies is
something that we have not devoted much thought or discussion to. We
think that both companies and the Go community in general will all benefit
because of our cooperative efforts.
Sidney Yuan is my friend and is just as committed to spreading the GO word
in the West as Kiseido USA and Kiseido Publishing Company are and Ishi
Press was. I am very pleased to announce that Sidney is taking over
Kiseido USA as of Monday, August 19, 1996. I am sure that he will be able
to provide you with excellent service as well as the full line of Kiseido
products and GO World magazine. Sidney will also be able to provide that
all-important continuity of service and products as well as a great degree
of stability.
I am leaving the USA for a job in Tokyo that begins when I arrive there on
August 24th. My wife, Ling-I, is in Taiwan right now and about to have
our first child in mid-September, and she would like very much to return
to live in Tokyo, where we both spent 10 wonderful years.
While in Tokyo, I will continue my association with Kiseido USA and will
establish a new business relationship with Kiseido Publishing Company
Japan. I will devote as much of my time and energy as possible to helping
Kiseido and Go grow in the West.
I can still be reached via e-mail at this e-mail address, and as soon as I
have a new e-mail address in Tokyo, I'll publish it in the rec.games.go
newsgroup on the Internet.
Thank you all for all you have done over the past 15 months during Kiseido
USA's difficult birth and first few steps toward maturity as a business.
This was my first business. I know that I made a lot of mistakes, but in
the end, I think I must have done a lot of things right or I would not
have felt so welcome in the Go community. Kiseido has grown a great deal
from its very modest beginnings, and that could not have happened without
the support of each and every one of you. Your kind words and helpful
suggestions, your patronage, your moral support all helped make my 15
months as the fledgling president and chief go-fer of this company a
terrific learning experience as well as a satisfying and happy period in
my life. I know that I have made many new friends among you, and I will
look forward to hearing from, seeing, and talking to you all in the near
and the distant future.
