These extracts may help to illustrate a few of the various
theatrical roles played by Go Equipment in Japanese Cinema:

Some background -- Kuranosuke Oishi, leader of the 47 Ronin,
is divorcing his wife to protect her from possible harm should they
encounter retaliation for their contemplated plan of revenge on
behalf of their deceased Lord's honor. In the first part of the clip
the mother doesn't understand why, so she throws Go Stones
at him. At the end of the clip, however, the family has figured
out on their own why the divorce is occurring. Kuranosuke, here
played by Kazuo Hasegawa, is seen lying on what looks to be
an uncomfortable headrest, however in Japanese Theater this
illustrates a clue that they know, and preserves his stage hairdo.

Here is seen another delivery for the roles Go Equipment may
play in the action, toward the conclusion of this "1962" version.
Official Chushingura tales must follow a tailored historical script,
however there developed a pattern of relaxation in interpretation.

Lafcadio Hearn's story was set to film, though it is doubtful
whether Mr. Hearn was an accomplished Go Player. We want
to know whether their adjourned game was ever resumed ...

Here Zatoichi's one-upmanship trumps the tiddlywink champ.
We would like to know whether the shuffleboard move was
obtained by practice, using a lot of film, or if it was animated.
Notice, with the tea, they laugh but they do not laugh too much.

Interesting links provided by jb, the role of Go in some major Japanese
file productions. I am a recent fan of Japanese cinematography, jb's

Naturally you had to choose a website which requires javascript,
cookies, nags you with advertisements and pauses, makes downloading the
actual file as difficult as possible, and whatnot.

There *are* better alternatives, you know.

These are high resolution mpg4 files, and one is 75 meg. What

This comprises a selection criteria to weed out those
who are not elite members of the "downloader's club."
Dialup users and those with dinosaur XT machines are
not welcomed. Those without sufficient protections
against viruses, spywares, spambots, are not welcome.
Those without patience and without appreciation for the
webhosters are not welcome. Those without sufficient
understanding of the mechanics of web-interfaces and
complex high-speed internet file transfers are unwelcome.
Whiners incapable and unable of finding appropriate solution
by rehosting mbytes on their own webpages are unwelcome.

Buying the DVD is, perhaps, a better alternative. Yet
this newsgroup was not intended for commercial posting.
