THE OFFICIAL FUZION FAQ FROM HERO/TALSORIAN
What is Fuzion?
Fuzion is a new roleplaying game system developed jointly by R. Talsorian
Games (RTG) and Hero Games. Fuzion is simple, flexible, works for all
genres, and can be scaled up to any power level or detail level you
desire. Fuzion combines what we feel are the best qualities of the Hero
System and Interlock along with many improvements.
Fuzion easily allows Hero System and Interlock players to use the same
characters and system elements. All Fuzion products are easily used by
Hero System players and Interlock players. (Hero System products include
Champions, Fantasy Hero, Horror Hero, and many others. Interlock products
include Cyberpunk, CyberGeneration, Mekton Zeta, and others.)
The Hero System can be easily used with Fuzion to create new Fuzion
powers. All Hero System and Interlock system characters can be easily used
in Fuzion, and vice-versa; no elaborate conversion is necessary. Fuzion
will also let you use all the power creation rules from the Hero System,
so you can create any new power, gadget, or magical effect for Fuzion.
Fuzion lets you use cyberware from Cyberpunk, or build mecha using the
Mekton Zeta rules.
Most new Hero Games products and RTG products will feature the Fuzion
system, including the upcoming Bubble Gum Crisis from RTG, and Usagi
Yojimbo from Gold Rush Games. All previous Hero System and Interlock
products will work with Fuzion. So you'll have a very wide range of source
material to use with any Fuzion game.
What's so great about Fuzion?
Fuzion is simple, scalable, flexible, and universal. Fuzion has a simple
core: the basic rules fit on a couple of pages, and the basic character
can fit on a trading card. The rules provide more detail as needed or
desired, so the game is scalable to whatever degree of detail you want.
Fuzion handles all power levels, from normal humans to demigods and
beyond. Fuzion is flexible so that you can tailor the system to meet the
needs of any genre. And Fuzion has all of the Hero System and Interlock
products to draw on for source material.
So when can I see Fuzion for myself?
We're releasing a playtest draft of Fuzion to the online audience in the
next few weeks. The first Fuzion-powered game to hit the market will be
Bubble Gum Crisis from RTG, appearing in August.
Is Fuzion the 5th Edition of the Hero System?
Fuzion is NOT the 5th Edition of the Hero System; we aren't changing the
Hero System. Fuzion is a brand-new game system that we hope everyone will
try and use. We are going to leave the 4th Edition of the Hero System
pretty much as is, though we may post new 4th Edition material to our Web
site (www.herogames.com). However, we will continue to support 4th Edition
Hero System players by selling the 4th Edition rules through our Hero Plus
division. At this time, we're not planning to publish a 5th Edition; we're
concentrating our design efforts on Fuzion.
You can continue to use the Hero System unchanged, with the added benefit
of being able to use any Fuzion-compatible product very easily. This gives
you access to new Champions, Cyberpunk, and Mekton material, as well as
Bubble Gum Crisis, Usagi Yojimbo, and other future products.
We encourage roleplayers everywhere to check out the Fuzion system. Hero
System players will find that Fuzion has all of the flavor of the Hero
System with many improvements. If you are really looking to change things
in the 4th Edition, you should definitely look at Fuzion. Interlock
players will find that Fuzion is very familiar, with many improvements.
What's Champions 2000?
Champions 2000 was a working title; Champions: The New Millenium is the
title of our new superheroic world setting that uses the Fuzion system.
The primary focus of this book is the campaign setting, with history,
background, characters, stories, organizations, technology, and similar
things in depth never before covered in a Champions project. You can
easily use the Hero System 4th Edition rules in this new setting.
Champions: The New Millenium has a number of familiar characters and
organizations, but they've been transformed with an all-new history, story
lines, backgrounds, and more. This campaign book will feature four-color
interior sections and all the incredible graphics expertise of the folks
at RTG. It's the perfect game for anyone who likes superheroes of any
type.
Where can I learn more about FUZION (and other HERO/RTG projects)?
Try the Hero Games Web site at www.herogames.com; we'll be posting more
information there soon.

Glad you specified... I read "Fuzzy One". (Come to that,
despite the specification, I *still* read it that way...)

Either way, 'F' comes before 'G,' which may or may not have been
a big point in its favor.

"works for all genres"? I hope you'll forgive me for thinking that
claim might be somewhat exaggerated. GURPS does as good a job as any at
that, but the deep-rooted structures of the game system don't always
work well for some styles of play.

Still, it looks good. I like the Interlock game system, and it copes
quite well with non-magical settings. Try running a Teenagers _in_
Outer Space campaign by taking some stuff from Near Orbit/Deep Space.

How about Questworld? It was one of Chaosium's old RQ supplements, but
it wasn't supposed to be on Glorantha. (Ha! Phil Masters isn't the only
one with a copy of Heroic Worlds.)

Not according to 'Heroic Worlds'. But it's getting out of date...

Sounds like it is time to invent one:
Quercus - the RPG where oak trees secretly control the world. You play
one of their agents (a druid, of course).

Sounds good to me. Here're some rules:
- on all character sheets, French fonts must be at least twice the
size of English fonts
- characters try to receive extra experience points by blaming the DM
for everything
- ethnic characters and characters with a lot of gold pieces have a
-5 charisma penalty
- wizard characters can only study the school of magic that their
parents studied
- adventuring parties larger than 6 must obtain a certificate of
francization in order to do any adventuring
- while insisting that the party can split up, separatist characters
must insist that henchmen have no right to do so
The possibilities are endless...
