Is it possible to falsify data in Ultratech sensies? I'm working on a
mystery scenario in which a sensie star who specialises in extreme sports is
killed while climbing at the Blue Mountains. The killer then falsifies the
data in the star's sensie unit to hide his involvement.

Why not? A sensie is just a recorded data stream, and we can fake data
streams now. (Watch any CGI-intensive movie with synthesized audio for
proof.) It's reasonable to expect that faking a full-sense data stream
would be possible not too long after we know how to record a sensie.

It may take a while to create the forged data stream, but that just
means the killer has to decide between perfection and speed... which
allows you to leave clues (subtle or otherwise) in the sensie that All
Is Not As It Seems if he chooses "speed".

It is if you say it is. In absolute terms it would be possible. It's
information. It can be fabricated. It's just a matter of how
convincingly. One way would be to pick a distracting moment, like a
slip and near fall, splice in a bit of another trip up the same route,
and then back to the original for the fall to his death.

I would say: It is if you clearly *establish* that it is, preferably by
demonstrating the truth in the fiction somehow. Unless you want the
sleuths to be lacking important information, that is.

Nothing in Ultra-Tech is canon; it's not a shopping list for the PCs.
Rather, it's a shopping list *for the GM*, of technology to build into
their world.

The catalogue presents technology as unreasonably pure, capable,
efficient, and complete. Give it whatever flaws you like (and IIRC there
are good guidelines for technology flaws in both the Basic Set and
Ultra-Tech), but make sure the ones that apply in your world are known,
or at least demonstrated ahead of time like in a good mystery novel.
