This is D&D, not BDSM.

I know a guy who just hit 40 and he still plays. You are never too
old for gaming. Unless you are senile that is.
I'm 37, the youngest player in my group is 17, and the oldest is 47.
The majority of players are in their 20's. We all enjoy the game, and
have fun together.

Not by a longshot!
When I was playing in the RPGA, we had players ranging from 14 to 50+.
The group I'm playing in now is about half 20-somethings and half
30-somethings. D&D is a fun and, as far as I'm concerned, lifelong
hobby. I plan on gaming 'til I don't have the strength to roll the
dice... and then I'll likely have my grandkids do it for me!
So, go for it! I'm sure you could get hooked up with a group at your
local gaming store.
Have fun! =]
Nah, I wondered the same thing when I restarted playing after a similar
break, just a few months ago; but, at 32, I'm just about average age within
our local group - there are some younger players, but also several who are
older than I am.
--
Mark.
* Oops. Had the silly thing in reverse.
I'm 32, and I think you'll find most people on this group (or at least
a lot of them) are in their late 20's to early 30's. My current
gaming group consists of myself, a 35 year old, a 22 year old, and a
couple guys in their late 20's. I think you'll find that many of the
people who played D&D (or other RPGs) back in the day are still
around...I suspect this hobby will continue for some time in the
future. :-)
Now, I don't want to go off on a rant here, but why is it that if a
man plays golf or goes fishing or sits on his ass in front of a
television set watching sports he's "relaxing", but if he plays an RPG
or a video game he's "immature"? Stupid bullshit, that.
Jack Ballard
Well, since you're still saying, "like" in a sentence where you meant
"about" (or something equivalent), I'd say you're still young enough
to play with the kids :-)
Not to mention the "drsmith666" and "Bass Guitar God" business.
Hey, if you're really worried - you're 36, right? Means you have a
job an can pay for the chips, pizza and pop, which will make you very
popular.
And if you don't have a job and live with your mom/dad, you'd fit
right in with those 16-18 year olds.
Seriously - my group's median age is 41...
For what it is worth...
I'm 34. I didn't know anyone in my current group when D&D3e was
released. I'm the second oldest in the group. The rest are in their 20s.
(We may have had a 18/19 year old in the group before. Age doesn't come
up that often.)
My experience has been that (1) there still are plenty of people in
their 20s, 30s, 40s (and more?) who play and (2) there is very, very
little "age discrimination" in our hobby.

Bottom line - I expect there's a very high percentage of active or

And of course, those who got into it back in the pre-AD&D days, though
perhaps less in number, would now be pushing into their 50's and
beyond.

You're _younger_ than about half my players, and around the same age

I know what you mean. Irc just isn't the same. Ah, well, hang in

I'm 47 and run a group consisting of five players two about 20, one 25, and

36 is old. HA.
You may find you don't enjoy playing with a much younger crowd simply
because your own interests are different, but you should certainly be able
to find players willing to accept an 'old' 36 year old.

I think I have all of ya beat... :-)
I played solo tunnels and trolls in 1977 and 1978. I moved to
Mississippi in 1978. Found a store/warehouse that sold more stuff.
Gamed there for about a month. Then the owner opened a store next to
the warehouse. I bought dice, miniatures, 1E ad&d stuff, along with
Judges Guild items. Zocchi owned that warehouse and store.
I still have one of those very expensive 'unique' poly sets.

Not all groups will suit you, but there are plenty of gamers of your age
out there, and some players are fine with an age gap anyway. The
youngest member of our group, my stepson, is 11. The oldest member, his

Wow, Jim, those dice are sweet. Way better quality than the super-soft
sets that came with the original D&D boxed sets. Wish I still had my
original dice sets, sadly this asshole kid in highschool took them
from me when I left my backpack in the art classroom during lunch.
Couldn't prove he took them and he didn't have them *on* him...the
asshole didn't even *play* D&D...but he was always a bit of a dick to
me and he'd seen the dice prior to lunch as my buddy and I were
talking about the current campaign we were playing. Had the classic

Ah yes, thanks for clearing me up. Not long ago there was an eBay
auction for some random dice, maybe 2 dozen or so, in a Crown Royal
bag. Went for almost $20, as I recall. Had to be for the bag as the
nice weren't anything too special. I was going to bid but between my
black velvet bag and the sweet leather one my daughter (she was nearly
4, picket out a nice firey Crystal Caste dice set too...my wife just
shakes her head) got me for my birthday I didn't need another dice
bag...even for nostalgia's sake.

i totally agree on that one... i just started playing after a 6 or 7
year break and went to the local shop and realized just how much i had
actually missed... they have dumbed down most rpg systems it seems
like. and all of the customers in there were in their teens... i'm in

Man, you were one lucky dog! I used to love buying stuff from Zocchi.
Most of my dice are Gamescience.
Life to you, Bass. And everlasting glory.
Similar to you I have been playing since I was 20, the only difference I
haven't stopped and I am now 37. Now admittedly the youngest people that
usually play in the groups I am in are 16, but most are older than that and
one or two are older than I am. All I can suggest is look for a group and
ask to join they can only say no, which is unlikely as most groups are
always looking for new players; especially DM's. Ask at your local games
store(s), check the library for possible RPG/Games clubs, ask at your local
college/university as they usually have a club of some description, check
the local papers as they sometimes have a club page which is free to
advertise in and last but not necessarily least join the various D20 forums
and look for the players seeking players section. You can always put a card
in your local games store(s) saying you are looking for a game to join or if
you are willing to DM you could see if any of your friends are interested in
starting a game. HTH
