I'm still here and check in occasionally too Usenet isn't coming to an
end, just Google's support of it, which was more convenient for me. I'm
interested in Gamma World as well, if there's a Usenet group for it,
point me to it! :)
I'm on a fairly active email group for it, but it's a bit too active for
me to keep up with, and more inconvenient, and I just have lurked there.
rec.games.frp.misc at least has occasional posts so you might check that
newsgroup out, I've seen people posting some D&D related stuff there too.
comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.action is about as active as I like, and has
opened up to allow any PC games, and even some talk of mobile and
console games. That group is the main reason I bother with Usenet
anymore.

I switched back to Thunderbird and eternal-september a couple days ago.
I'd forgotten that it's much easier to keep up with multiple groups as I
can see when there's new messages in any of them instead of checking
each individually as I had to do with GG. Also I don't have to worry
about the spam so much as eternal-september is working hard to
pre-filter it. Lastly I don't have to worry about formatting messages
as Thunderbird handles that fine.
IIRC Forte' Agent is better than Thunderbird, but Thunderbird is free.
I might shell out for Agent eventually again if I find Thunderbird too
buggy.
