I just recently started playing AD&D, which i have to say is AWESOME,

Help would be appreciated.

Um....Have you tried reading the PHB? WahAAhahahaah!
To Hit Ac 0.
Great help, aren't I!
Tim
For example, suppose a character (monster) has a THAC0 of 12. On rolling a 1d20, if he rolls a 17,
he hits armor class -5. On a roll of 12 he hits armor class 0, and on a roll of 8 he hits armor
class 4.

It's stand for "To Hit Armor Class 0". It's the number needed on a d20 to
hit armor class zero. From the THACO, you can easily calculate other to hit
numbers by substracting the target armor class from the THACO. For exemple,
to hit armor class 5 when your THACO is 20 means you need a 15 to hit.
Stephane
EX; Your THAC0 is 18 and you roll a 16. You've hit AC2.

Yes, it can be tricky to understand when you're just getting into it..
It is: THAC0 which means (T)o (H)it (A)rmour (C)lass (0)
The THAC0 of a character is basically the probablity of the character hitting someone with an
armour class rating of zero.
You then apply modifiers to this probability if the thing the character is fighting against has
better/worse armour than AC 0
E.g. Granger the Ranger is fighting Toby the Troll. Granger has a THAC0 of 15. Toby has a AC of
5. So, for Granger to hit Toby, Granger's player must roll a 10 or above on a 20-sided dice.
THAC0 (15) - AC of thing being attacked (5) = 10
There ya go...
