The restrictions on the Chain Spell feat are:
1. Spell is cast at a +3 spell level slot.
2. Spell must specify a single target.
3. Spell must have a range greater than touch.
Here are a few spells that might be interesting:
Chained Blindness/Deafness (5th level) - low level Power Word, Blind
Chained Charm Person (4th level) - turn a mob to squabbling
Chained Command (4th level) - clerics only, but effective
Chained Daze (3rd level) - a munchkin's favorite
Chained Detect Poison (3rd level) - useful to test an entire room at once
Chained Dimension Door (7th level) - mass escape, but this is a cheesy
interpretation
Chained Dominate Person (8th level) - replaces Mass Charm
Chained Feeblemind (8th level) - spellcasters causing a problem?
Chained Flesh to Stone (9th level) - instant garden gnomes
Chained Grease (4th level) - target all the weapons of the enemy, or just
their boots
Chained Hold Person (6th level) - mass Hold Person
Chained Knock (5th level) - instant freedom or passage
Chained Mage Hand (3rd level) - telekinesis before Telekinesis
Chained Polymorph Other (7th level) - mass polymorph is back from 2E!
Chained Shatter (5th level) - breaking things is always loads of fun
Chained T&B Orb spells (4rd or 7th level) - multiple targets, 7th level
version does loads of damage to caster level+1 targets.
and so on...
A truly evil player would invent new, low-level spells that could be
chained. You effectively get 2 spells for the price of 1: a lesser version
and a greater version! :)
Jeez. This has made me want to get this feat (though maybe at a high
level like 9th+).

Chained Magic Jar (8th level).
What happens when you try to possess multiple creatures at the same time?
Does your soul split? Would this create mini-souls? Or is the soul an
infinite effect and thus any attempt to split it creates a duplicate?
What happens when the spell ends? Would the split souls reform into one
again? Would they create a spiritually schizo wizard? If the soul became
mini-souls, would the wizard be composed of many tiny spirits? Am I just
talking out of my ass right now?
Seriously, though, I'd like to hear some ideas on what a Chained Magic Jar
would do.

Chained Spell [Metamagic]
You can cast spells that arc to other targets in addition to the primary
target.
Prerequisites: Any other metamagic feat.
Benefit: You can chain any spell that specifies a single target and has
a range greater than touch. The chained spell affects that target (the
primary target) normally, then arcs to a number of secondary targets equal
to your caster level. Each arc affects one secondary target. You choose
the secondary targets as you like, but they all must be within 30 feet of
the primary target, and no target can be chosen more than once. You can
affect fewer secondary targets than the maximum.
If the chained spell deals damage, the secondary targets each take half
as many dice of damage as the primary target (rounded down) and can
attempt Reflex saving throws for half of the secondary damage. For spells
that do not deal points of damage, the save DCs against arcing affects are
reduced to 4. For example, a 10th-level wizard casts a chained /cause
fear/ on a nearby goblin and can specify up to ten secondary targets. The
goblin, as a primary target, must make a will save against DC 14, while
those affected by secondary arcs save against DC 10.
A chained spell uses up a spell slot three levels higher than the
spell's actual level.

The best interpretation of a rule is the one you make yourself.
I'd rule that the soul doesn't get smaller or split, it's just simultaneously
in more than one body. That'd be fun.
Ugh. That'd be a hell of a mess. Here's another point: what happens to
all the souls you just replaced? Do they all fit into the single magic
jar? What happens if two diametrically opposed souls go into the same
receptacle (i.e. chaotic evil & lawful good souls)? Would this create a
soul-battle?
Of course not silly! There would be a big alignment explosion (like mixing
matter and anti-matter!). All creatures within 1d20 miles must save vs. will
(DC 30) or have their alignments changed to True Neutral. It's says so right
here on page...

"There can be only one."
You can't use it on Magic Missile, because MM doesn't specify a single
target, which is a stipulation of the Chain Spell feat.
>I could affect a total of 10 creatures with one spell, but if only one
>powerful spell will be covered, I think I'll pick something else for my next

Someone else has already posted a list of nice spells to use with
chaining. It's definitely a good metamagic feat. Maybe even too good.
Then again, remember that the chained effects operate at a much lower
power level than the main spell (easier save DC, less damage). 3 levels
is probably about right.
The problematic one is Persistent Spell. Ewwww... This one cheated so
much (along with its psionic equivalent) that it got bounced from the 3rd
Ed. campaign I play in.
