A live-action role-playing group in Austin, TX called the High Fantasy
Society meets every Saturday afternoon in Pease Park (24th and Lamar, on the
far side of the park) for battlegames, simulated combat with padded weapons.
We tend to stress more the "Fantasy" elements of LARP. You may assume any
Fantasy-esque "persona" you desire; we have people from Ancient Rome to
Renaissance Europe, humans and elves and dryads (oh my!).
We have a variety of character types, and a magic system. You earn
credit by showing up for battlegames, and can increase in powers and abilities
as you gain "weeks". Our weapons and armor must be checked for safety, and
no head shots or punching/kicking/grabbing are allowed.
Also every so often we have courts, feasts and other non-combat
meetings, where the role-playing flows freely.
My SO, Audress, and I are the heads ("sheriffs") of the University
of Texas at Austin branch of HFS, the Shire of the Ivory Tower. If anybody
in the Central Texas area wants more info about HFS, drop me an e-mail line,
eh?
There are many LARP groups in Central Austin, and I wanna hear more
about 'em! So e-mail or (preferably) post, y'all! And once again, I dowanna
be a nuisance here on r.g.f.*, so if there's a net.group devoted to LARP,
let me know where it is and I'll take it there. If not, let's get some LARP
discussion going amid the Shadowrun, Psionics and "Why don't Elves rule the
world" hustle and bustle. ;_)
LARPingly yours,
JIM
