Say you wanted to create a magic headband type item but wanted it to be
a torc and have the neck slot. What would the price difference be? Thanks.

Per the sidebar on page 288 of the 3.5 DMG, it costs an extra 50% to
create an item in a body slot that doesn't have the correct affinity.
So an item that normally costs 2k would cost 3k in the new slot.

If you craft an item in a non-standard slot which nonetheless still
has the correct affinity, there is no change in price. So something
that was originally a cloak, cape or mantle (shoulders) that dealt
with Protection would not cost extra to be made as an amulet, broach,
medallion, necklace, periapt, scarab (or presumably torc) - all throat
items. That's because the throat slot also has an affinity for items
of Protection. But you said an item originally for the head slot,
which doesn't have an affinity for Protection.

The throat slot also has an affinity for Discernment - but the DMG
doesn't list any other areas that have an affinity for discernment, so
that wouldn't seem to help you any. If your original item is in the
head slot, the DMG lists Mental Improvements and Ranged Attacks as the
affinities - neither of which are part of the list of Throat slot
affinities. So that 50% jump in cost will be required.

By the way - I was little distracted at the time and didn't notice
your subject said 3.P, not 3.5. If you were looking for a Pathfinder
rule, I don't know if it's the same or not.

<snip: Good work>

Pathfinder seems to have skipped over including that rule, but they
still used it to price all the items they included, and the Wisdom of google
recommends sticking with it. 8]

There's a huge thread about this on the PF boards as part of RPG
Superstar 2012.

http://paizo.com/forums/dmtz4wjy?Exploring-the-mysteries-of-item-pricing

The basic gist is to use the 3.5 Slot Affinities (so +50%) unless it's
something that could logically belong there. For example, headband
items are normally mental attribute boosts. But if you created a
magnificent and showy golden torc to give you a smooth, silky and
seductive voice (Cha boost) that would logically be exempt, or perhaps
just +25%. Boots of Charisma might be harder to justify. And beyond
all that, the pricing guidelines are just that: guidelines.

So it depends on what your item does.
