Thank you all for taking a few moments here to answer the AD&D Survey… I am
currently writing up a few articles pertaining the AD&D worlds and would like
to hear some of your (Player or DM) stories on the following questions:
1 - What kind of traditions does your gaming group have during a normal gaming
session? (This can be anything minor from, "We only use our own dice", to
something major like "At midnight we all go out and bark at the moon before we
go on"…)
2 - What is the most memorable character, which has ever played in your game?
3 - What and who was the luckiest character in your game?
4 - What is the biggest accomplishment, which the party has ever done?
5 - What is the average age of the players in your gaming group?
6 - What is the average age of experience in your current gaming group?
Now at this time please rate your current gaming group(s) from a scale of 1
to 5 (1 being the least and 5 being the most)…
1 - The game you currently are playing is more of a "Hack and Slash" game
2 - My current DM (or you) are well prepared for your gaming sessions
3 - Magic is easy to find and nearly everyone has at least two items of magic
4 - When we start up a new campaign we will always start at the first level
5 - Our game is always set in a campaign setting rather then just an adventure
6 - The DM (or you) use all of the rules in the AD&D setting
7 - Dragons are very popular and nearly everyone knows where they can find one
(if they wanted to)
8 - My current DM (or you) always create your own spells, magical items and
monsters
9 - My DM (or you) are always open for suggestions
10 - My DM (or you) most of the time uses his own created maps and world
Once again thank you all for filling out this AD&D Survey… Now if you would
please fill out this newsletter and please send it to Shad...@Aol.com…
In case you are curious on why I have done this small survey is because I am
currently the editor of "The Dragon's Horde" which is a Monthly AD&D E-zine…
Our E-zine is a collection of articles written and prepared by fellow Players
and DM's of the AD&D game… If you are interested in joining the Mailing List,

Right after the major event of the session, we would go out for a "Cigar Walk" to
get out the extra adrenaline and to talk about the session.

apreciated his luck.

My group is kind of new, I don't think we really have any special
traditions. It seems that the host is usually expected to provide food, but
since several of us take turns it hasn't been an issue.
>2 - What is the most memorable character, which has ever played in your
game?
>
Hmm. In MY game, meaning in my experience, that would be Ravon of
Darkforest. This was a character a friend of mine ran in the FIRST ad&d game
ever. He was a half dark-elven (not drow; another kind) fighter/mage. He was
a huge munchkin, but whats memorable about him is that he was completely
insane. I had NPC's I ran with him, since he was the only player at the
time. The only real purpose they served was to say "are you SURE you want to
do that?" and "Please don't bitch slap the dragon..." :P
The new game just started (our third session is sunday) so I'm not sure what
the answer would be to most of these questions relating to them.
>3 - What and who was the luckiest character in your game?
Tough to say. In the last session, the mage cast around 11 Nahal's Reckless
Dweomers in a row without any directly negative effects, but I'm not sure
that counts. There was the UNluckiest character, though. A poor cavalier
who, due to the critical hit/fumble system I was using at the time, lost
around 6 arms over the course of the game. He kept losing them and the
cleric kept sticking them back on. At one point, due to a wild surge (these
come up a lot, huh) he grew a third arm, which he cut off :P
>4 - What is the biggest accomplishment, which the party has ever done?
Well, there was the time the third level party killed a lich. I tell this
story a lot :P
The lich was being guarded by around a million earth elementals. We didn't
know it was a lich, we just wanted into the wizard's study. So, we figured
out that the elementals were both stupid and nearsighted, and would think we
were the wizard if we wore his robes (which we had found earlier). So I put
them on, and they let us in. We see the lich, ugly old skeletal nasty thing
in robes, and I, being a devout ranger/druid, decide I must cleanse this
blight from the earth, and everyone else reluctantly backed me up. Well, we
managed to hack on him for a little while before he managed to get a spell
off, which was prismatic sphere. He sat in the sphere spelling up while we
waited around outside and the rest of the party talked about leaving fast,
then he made his mistake. He dropped the sphere and polymorphed into a red
dragon. I ran to the door, threw it open, and screamed "Help! Theres a red
dragon in my study!"
The DM was surprised. We had been meant to run away. The elementals
annihilated the lich completely. That is the kill I am the proudest of out
of my entire gaming career. :)
>5 - What is the average age of the players in your gaming group?
dunno. I don't know their ages, although I'd guess in the 20s.
>
>6 - What is the average age of experience in your current gaming group?
no idea. lots.

>1 - The game you currently are playing is more of a "Hack and Slash" game
2, I'd say. Theres *some* fighting, but not a lot. maybe two combats in the
last session.
>2 - My current DM (or you) are well prepared for your gaming sessions
Depends on what you mean by "prepared". I know everything I need to know to
run, but I hate over-preparing. I end up spending more time book keeping
than anything else. I'd say a 3.
>3 - Magic is easy to find and nearly everyone has at least two items of
magic
5. Very high magic campaign world.
>4 - When we start up a new campaign we will always start at the first level
2. My game started at third, but the other DM's started at first. I usually
start at 3rd-5th.
>5 - Our game is always set in a campaign setting rather then just an
adventure
5. All the DM's have detailed campaign worlds.
>6 - The DM (or you) use all of the rules in the AD&D setting
HA! 1. I use a ton of house rules. On the other hand, the other DM is a
strict 1st edder, so he rates a 4, I'd say.
>7 - Dragons are very popular and nearly everyone knows where they can find
one
>(if they wanted to)
Nope. They don't exist, silly. 1.
Seriously, they're considered a myth IMC.
>8 - My current DM (or you) always create your own spells, magical items and
>monsters
4. I create a lot of my own spells and almost all of my own items, and quite
a few monsters, but I use the stock, too.
>9 - My DM (or you) are always open for suggestions
5, I like to think.
>10 - My DM (or you) most of the time uses his own created maps and world
5, both DM's.
> Once again thank you all for filling out this AD&D Survey…
Don't mention it. I love surveys :P

None in particular, though individual players have their own quirks.
>
> 2 - What is the most memorable character, which has ever played in your game?
Hard to say, I've seen so many in my games. Thornhair Fallenstar...
Dalthon of Aegeia... Tobimar Silverun (Aka Alexi the Mad)...
Krog-Da-CHA... I'd have to say, forced to say just one, Krog-Da-CHA,
Korellian Justiciar, who had the greatest death scene I've ever seen in
20 years of play.
>
> 3 - What and who was the luckiest character in your game?
Tobimar Silverun, AKA Alexi the Mad, no contest, no argument, no chance
of debate. I had a rule in my games that percentile rolls that came out
doubles (22, 77, 00) could have another die rolled with them; a triple
was a very important roll; a quadruple, even more so.
Rolling IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE GROUP, and not with little rolls but
with real, sweep your hands across the surface and let 'em rattle around
rolls, Alexi's player (with THAT character, and NO OTHER CHARACTER)
averaged two or three triples PER NIGHT, at least. Eventually, with his
agreement, he was required to roll quadruples for the same effect. The
highest he ever got was a few septuples -- seven percentiles, same
number in a row -- 7777777 and 8888888, as I recall.
>
> 4 - What is the biggest accomplishment, which the party has ever done?
Hard to say. Saving the world in various ways is the general end of
most of my campaigns. I suppose the most intricate was their recent
revival of the Wanderer, to battle his own evil counterpart.
>
> 5 - What is the average age of the players in your gaming group?
26 - 28, I'd guess.
>
> 6 - What is the average age of experience in your current gaming group?
You mean number of years gaming? Probably averages around 10 - 12, but
I skew the numbers some.

4 (I'm an improv DM to a great extent, so I never have extensive
preparations in a normal sense)

Maybe not everyone, but if it's something the players want, it's
usually there. 4.
> 4 - When we start up a new campaign we will always start at the first level
Usually. 4.
> 5 - Our game is always set in a campaign setting rather then just an adventure
5. I haven't run one-shots in YEARS.
> 6 - The DM (or you) use all of the rules in the AD&D setting
1. I homebrew most things. And no one on earth could use all of them.
> 7 - Dragons are very popular and nearly everyone knows where they can find one
4. Dragons are legendary. While there are several that many people
could find, no one would want to without pressing reason.
> 8 - My current DM (or you) always create your own spells, magical items and
> monsters
3. I have no objection to using available resources from a dozen games.
But I also add lots of stuff on my own.
> 9 - My DM (or you) are always open for suggestions
5. Any suggestions are welcome. I may not take 'em, but I'm always
willing to listen.
> 10 - My DM (or you) most of the time uses his own created maps and world
Always. Even my middle-earth maps were created by a friend of mine,
because it wasn't quite the same Middle-Earth any more.

It has no formal name so I'll give it one here: the only real tradition that
springs to mind is "The List". Mangled phrases, witty remarks, and blundered
verbal gymnastics of all kinds get added to The List. Go to my website noted in
my .sig and look for "Quotable Quotes".
> 2 - What is the most memorable character, which has ever played in your game?
In MY campaigns no single PC really stands out above all others in memory. In
games I have PLAYED in it's difficult to choose among innumerable giants but I'd
have to say Bored Flak (a.k.a. Ocelot). A human mage who betrayed the party
through murder, kidnapping, and ransom while managing to keep his betrayals secret
and remaining a respected member.
> 3 - What and who was the luckiest character in your game?
Mostly ditto the above. No standouts from campaigns I've run (why is that I
wonder - my memory is simply failing I suppose). In games I've been a player
there are a couple instances of notable luck on the dice which landed Steadfast (a
dwarf) his pet "Spot" - an undying Goat of Travail - and Aste, an elven fighter
character of mine, who was the only character I've EVER seen to roll a natural
18/00 for strength. However, the winner is once again Bored Flak. When the day
came that his betrayal was finally discovered he happened to be away on personal
buisiness and escaped his rightful fate of execution - repeated until resurrection
fails to work anymore. Lucky bastard.
> 4 - What is the biggest accomplishment, which the party has ever done?
Well there are so many highly memorable deeds, mostly attributable to the PC
party known as The Avengers. The Avengers killed Lolth - twice! - imprisoned Set
(for a while at least), killed Tiamat (this was pre-Dragonlance), saved the world
who knows how many times (although the danger from the Castle Timeless was the
most memorable of those), and even launched a couple of Intercontinental Magic
Missiles (lemme tell you about THAT adventure some time).
> 5 - What is the average age of the players in your gaming group?
No current group but the last was probably around 30 or older.
> 6 - What is the average age of experience in your current gaming group?
Again, no current group but the last was at least 10, maybe more like 15
years.

Not necessarily, but I wouldn't mind seeing a sample issue - or at least the

There has been tons. A masked gray elf magic-user/theif who was hiding
from the Shadow Thieves. Another gray elf magic-user/theif who was
chaotic neutral and was an arms trader, serving as a diplomat for the
PCs during the day and breaking into houses at night.

If some one has to leave early their character "falls asleep against the
nearest tree" even if we are in combat.
If I roll a 1 to hit it always hits Bob instead

An Elf Illusionist, Boron Wolf of Evereska. He was the 1st PC we made, we
never played him thought because shortly after his creation we realized Elf
Illusionists were against the rules. We still use him as an NPC though.
There are other characters that are memorable but the Baron came to mind
first.

Can you post a sample?
What is the URL of your webpage so I can get a better feel for the E-zine?
We all used only our own dice, but the biggest one is "test-rolling". Every
player, when rolling anything, would roll two (or more) dice first, pick the
one which rolled furthest from the desired result (e.g. lowest for a hit roll),
then roll that one for the actual roll.
>2 - What is the most memorable character, which has ever played in your
>game?
Mine would have to be Maelstrom, the half-Typhoon dragon Wild Mage. She
got a wand of wonder (which a wild mage has a 50% chance of controlling)
which she never even *once* failed to control. She ended her life by
having the entire rest of the party (except for the fighter, who tried to
help her) kill her because the Lawful Evil sorcerer in the party had made a
deal two REAL months earlier that required him to kill her at the end of the
quest. She (and the fighter) killed four other members of the ten member
party before they got her, though. (She killed the anti-mage (special class),
the biomancer (special class) and the sha'ir, and the fighter killed the
elven thief)
>3 - What and who was the luckiest character in your game?
In one of my games, there was an elven thief named Noak who would roll
nineteens or higher any time he threw a dagger. He gained the nickname
"Dragonseye" when he criticalled a young dragon in each eye in a single
round, both with non-magical daggers, at 4th level.
>4 - What is the biggest accomplishment, which the party has ever done?
Umm... My tiefling psionicist Karpalle yanked Kane (an amoral evil super-
being devoted to obliterating all known universes) into RAvenloft and got
him stuck there for ten years, during which time I almost killed him twice.
When he finally escaped, we stopped him (with the help of the halfling god
of luck).
>5 - What is the average age of the players in your gaming group?
Has been, at different times, 15, 18, and now 22. (and when it was 18, I
also had two players over 30).
>6 - What is the average age of experience in your current gaming group?
This varies widely. I have 12 years experience, and I played for a while
(as Maelstrom) in a group with an average of about 15. However, for my
games, I often like to see how new players do, so my groups often average
far lower, as I usually have one or two experienced gamers (and myself),
with two to four new gamers.
>(1 being the least and 5 being the most)…
>
>1 - The game you currently are playing is more of a "Hack and Slash" game
2. I rarely do Hack'n'Slash. I like heavily political games, and I like inter-
character intrigue, and I like "save the world" type games.
>2 - My current DM (or you) are well prepared for your gaming sessions
2. I usually have a vague idea of what's going to happen, but I often just
make stuff up as I go along. Sometimes I let player actions shape how I'm
planning the plot (I had a player in a mystery-styled game come up with
a solution to the mystery that was far better than what I had originally
planned, so I used that one instead).
>3 - Magic is easy to find and nearly everyone has at least two items of
>magic
2. I play low-magic, but the items I give are usually pretty potent. Not
Vorpal Weapon, Weapon of Dancing, etc. severity, but pretty potent.
>4 - When we start up a new campaign we will always start at the first level
5. I try to NEVER start a game with chracters above 1st level. One of my
favorite aspects of the AD&D game is the growth of a character, and how
much a character gains a personality when a player has played him for half
a year of real time.
>5 - Our game is always set in a campaign setting rather then just an adventure
5. I have a detailed campaign world that I've been developing for six years
or so, and I'll even transplant sections of other campaign worlds into it
to use pre-printed adventures...
>6 - The DM (or you) use all of the rules in the AD&D setting
1. I have so many house rules, I printed up 30 pages just on character
creation. Beyond that, I use loads of house rules and ignore other rules.
>7 - Dragons are very popular and nearly everyone knows where they can find
>one (if they wanted to)
2. Every dragon in my world (with a few minor exceptions) is old or older
(or hidden) and unique, with their own abilities and such. I've always hated
the color stereotypes, so I make my own. (E.g. The Emerald Flame, a classic
green-scaled dragon with sky-blue underbelly, who breathes fire and has
taken a good portion of a duchy of the human kingdom as her terrain. She is
not unpleasant to the people there, but they are expected to tether one of
their flock (each peasant tethers one) each week for her.)
>8 - My current DM (or you) always create your own spells, magical items
>and monsters
2. I create a few spells, but I use the Encyclopedia Magica for items, and I
use the MM and the various MCs for monsters. Every now and then I tweak a
monster to keep the players from getting complacent, though.
>9 - My DM (or you) are always open for suggestions
5. I am always open to suggestion. I might not *take* the suggestion, but
I'll always listen to it.

5. As I said above, I use a world that I've been developing for about 5 years.

15th level through normal game play. He died 16 times and had a constitution
of 17.
3 - What and who was the luckiest character in your game?
** Obviously not the character above. The luckiest character was named, Lucky.
He started out as a swashbuckler, and became the party joke. He never failed
a save..save one..and now is lost on the astral plane.
4 - What is the biggest accomplishment, which the party has ever done?
** Found normal jobs to pay rent at 1st and 2nd level.

(Gaming sessions never go as planned with my group.) We also quickly ordered

>2 - What is the most memorable character, which has ever played in your
game?
A first edition human thief. Although he was a mere "shadow" in his party,
he only died once. Because of him, thieves are my favorite character class.
They are one of the most versatile classes, next to bards.
>3 - What and who was the luckiest character in your game?
The thief mentioned above. However, the least lucky character was an
illusionist I played. That was back in the days... However, I am not very
good at playing people with d4 for hit dice.
>4 - What is the biggest accomplishment, which the party has ever done?
Someone in our group had these jet bikes from a futuristic role-playing
game. Therefore, in the AD&D game, we wished (the spell) for flying devices
that moved at 48, could hold two people, and had fully charged wands of fire
and frost instead of machine guns. Anyway, the DM got really pissed off, but
had to let us have it. With them, we rampaged the land and blew up
Blackstaff's tower.
>5 - What is the average age of the players in your gaming group?
Seventeen.

Seven years.

> 2 - What is the most memorable character, which has ever played in your game?
I really can't answer that one. There have been so many!
> 3 - What and who was the luckiest character in your game?
Gallen Ip Hortwith, a gnome priest of luck. Gallen once used his
Suggestion ability on a powerful lich, and it actually worked (got
through the MR, then the lich rolled a save of 1)! His luck didn't end
there, either.
> 4 - What is the biggest accomplishment, which the party has ever done?
Imprisoning and then slaying/banishing the dracolich/lich force that was
threatening the world. That was in an earlier campaign -- the current
campaign party's greatest accomplishment was probably thwarting Madreus'
plan to open the Far Gate in Bruce Cordell's module, "The Gates of
Firestorm Peak".
> 5 - What is the average age of the players in your gaming group?
Hmn... There are the "oldsters" and the "youngsters". The "oldsters"
are all about 45 or so, and the "youngsters" average 30. I (the DM) am
25 tomorrow!
> 6 - What is the average age of experience in your current gaming group?
At least 20 years. Actually, we have two "new" players, who have gamed
maybe 2 years and 3 months, respectively.

- We always use our own dice.
- We all use cardboard boxes (most the tops from boxed sets) to
roll our dice in.
> 2 - What is the most memorable character, which has ever played in your game?
- Probably Benadon Starfire, one of my own characters. I played him
in a solo game for over a year of nearly constant play. He never
died (until the end) and advanced under normal AD&D2 rules from
level 0 to lvl 17 or 18 (I forget). He actually never had a
'holy sword' until the last evening of the campaign, and it didn't
save him, either. He had all kinds of allies, mostly a high-level
mage (who was charmed at the end and actually is the NPC responsible
for his death) and a wonderful pegasus. He was also the ruler of a
kingdom.
> 3 - What and who was the luckiest character in your game?
- One of the games I was running. A thief nicknamed 'the thief of a
thousand deaths' he died a lot, but he had outstanding luck lots of
times, too. :) He loved jumping on the backs of dragons and trying
to hold on. He severed a baby dragon's head once while it was
sleeping. He also got hurled a great distance from a major demon,
and survived, and barely survived a fall of 200 feet :) One time
he jumped on the back of a red dragon's neck, and the dragon
crushed him against a stone wall, obviously killed him that time..
> 4 - What is the biggest accomplishment, which the party has ever done?
- This one is hard to say. There was a great war they participated
in, that was world-threatening, and they turned the tide single-
handedly. A lot of dragons were involved. :) After getting through
all the defenses, they were essentially alone for the final battle,
and almost lost! They just weren't prepared enough, having to fight
a 20th level mage (who had two level 10 mages with him, and a lvl 15
priest). The fighter went in first, nearly alone as the rest waited
outside for too long. Reverse gravity had been cast and as the
fighter flew towards the ceiling, the nemesis time-stopped, flew
over, and crystalbrittled the fighters best magical weapon (he was
wielding it at the time, of course), and his magical plate mail.
After the time stop, the PC fell up into the ceiling, shattering
both items, and severely crippling his fighting ability. Directly
afterwards, the priest cast creeping doom at the entire party.
It almost ended right there, but the mage fireballed the whole place.
It was still close afterwards, but they won out.

Every time it looks like the party is about to be pushed into a fight,
someone says the token phrase (deadpan) "Fight. Cool." (This

>2 - What is the most memorable character, which has ever played in your game?
Would have to be Rowan (Fighter, Assassin kit from Dragon Mag), a
female CN warrior.
>3 - What and who was the luckiest character in your game?
Easy - Francois of Malinbois - had the absolute best mix of both good
AND bad luck of any character I've ever played. For a good
voice/accent idea, think of Pierre (of the squishy bears, from the Eek
the cat cartoon on Fox).
>4 - What is the biggest accomplishment, which the party has ever done?
Well - the party (5 PC's and 9 NPC's) discovered a long-lost
demi-plane (planescape adventure) and travelled through its
multi-layered expanse to defeat many foes, culminating in the battle
between the party and a 21st level lich with many unique spells and
items. (and his HASTED servant creatures). Everybody except for 2
PC's died, and of the 12 dead only 2 were ressurected.

How the names Rufus, Rathgar, Xavier or Vash. I don't think I've ever
played a game where someone, PC or important NPC didn't use atleast
one of those. Any other names people are tired of hearing?

Besides Mana, there are a couple of different names that come up
repeatedly. In response to the Raven question, I once had a huge guy,
named Draven. Not quite Raven, but close. He was a huge, human
character, that had blue paint entirely covering his body, and a loin
cloth for clothing. In modern terms, a mutated smurf wearing a towel.

No, man, Lothar is a fantasy name you can't get rid of. It's in "Dragon
Mountain," it's in Warcraft... It's everywhere.
I've had none of the above Ravens, Rowans, or Lothars. Most of my
players try to be creative, and I end up enforcing my 'stupid name
rule.' I once had a guy name his character Quop International Dateline.
Ah I see you are a fan of The Crow
Jade
Silver
Draven
Jarren (and Jaren, and Jarin, and Jaeren)
Shade
Shadow
Ren (and Wren and Rhynn)
Crimson
Storm
And how about people who insist on naming their characters regular
"Christian"(tm) given names like Andrew, Heather, and Steve?
Or people who always name their characters after famous fantasy characters:
Halflings named "Frodo", guys named "Rand Al'thor", wizards named "Gandalf"
etc...
Oh yeah, here's one I've encountered twice, who here knows someone with a PC or
NPC named Gygax?

I've always preferred the slightly altered versions. I once played a
Klingon character in Star Trek called Warf. The only character ever to
survive a phaser blast set on disintegrate. The joys of rolling an "01"
on d% after the GM has jokingly said that would be the only way you'd
survive....

Well...We in fact all use our own little dice collections, and do not let any
other player get near them, cos if they do, they will lose their 'luckiness' (just
like a disease). We also have a specific order for hosting adventures, and the
host always provides enough home-made food for ten, because we are ravenous after
adventuring. Fresh, warm village breadand butter, and salad are always a must.
> 2 - What is the most memorable character, which has ever played in your game
In my opinion, Kali-shi, a human warrior fighter who had a dick 17 inches long (we
rolled for that). He was a brilliant character, and his end was tragic:
immediately after reaching 5th level, he was brutally murdered by his adventuring
companion, Budawa the Handy the halfling, who was under the influence of the
'Madness' potion.
> 3 - What and who was the luckiest character in your game?
Not character, but the player who played the aformentioned Budawa: most of his
rolls have been, for 3 years now, incredibly lucky, with him suceeding probably 7
out of 10 times. Literally
> 4 - What is the biggest accomplishment, which the party has ever done?
Recover a lost magical weapon which defeated a group of earth elementals who were
screwing around in a city.

we are all 16

What do you mean? If you mean how long have we been playing, its 4 years. If you
mean how good are we at role playing, i'd say slightly above average, though not
having mastered it.

We once had a player who named his character Ernest. Since he was an
accomplished fighter he decided his character would be known throughout
the land as Deadly Ernest (shudder).
We (the other players) naturally took exception to this and promptly had
him slain, then animated.
Afterwards he was known as Undeadly Ernest......

He was a "rogue" character I named for a car dealer in the town I went
to high school in.
The funny part is that in my gaming group, unbeknownst to me, there
was a guy who was from the next town down the coast. When my
character introduced himself, he immediately shouted, "Oh my GOD,
YOU'RE A THIEF!"
Our DM couldn't for the life of him figure out how Pat had known. :)

Not much here - we just make entirely too much noise.

My Saurial Thief/Wild Mage. He took some of his prof. slots(GM said that
int bonus profs could be taken as NWPs) and got Wild fighting, natural
fighting, and was ambidextrous. Got two-weapon style as well.
Natural AC of 6, plus any armor added on top of that.
Essentially, with his 19 str, and his claw/claw/horn/tail/extra attack
he was insanely mean in h-h combat.
GM also ruled that he could specialize in h-h fighting, as he was
naturally proficient with his appendages and spending the WP would
increase it. (Actually it mainly helped lower fumble rates)
Started him out with 5K exp - so dual classed as a 3rd level thief, and
a 1st level mage. Move silent, make prof checks, charging backstab with
his horn. Did 26 damage to one poor guard this way. Never saw it
coming.
He nearly blew up the party a dozen times, yet was big enough to block
and entire doorway, so the clerics just healed him every round back up
to full HP as the "mage" minced the competition.

Alassra. Elf Mage. He just would not die. Even when the entire rest of
the party was fried, he was making saves. Rolled at 5% to get magical item
to start. Robe of Stars. Better than d-door or blink.
Best accomplishments:
1:Just *walked* through two Ravenloft adventures.
2:GM had us in a floating crystal castle(you know the module)
We just decided to have a bad attitude and trash the place(He included
it as a stopover/badguy plot point.) We decided to storm it at about
1/2 recommended levels. After going home and getting the module out,
we got smashed pretty hard next week, but were holding our own.
Bad buy summons a Greater Deamon who promptly summons another one.
My mage throws Chrom. Orb to paralyze. Rolls a 20 on the first one,
and a 19(needed just that) for the second. Bad guy was a matter
of kicking door open and fireballing the room point blank.
Range of the spell was 3-feet short of us as there was no ceiling.
Volume of 33 1/10 cubes, in a hemisphere. Punched it into a
calculator and did the circle-thing. *JUST* missed us.
3:GM *tried* for nearly a year to kill the guy off. Finally did, by
insta-killing me with a suprize AncientRedDragon breath weapon.
I don't believe that insta-kills/smites are valid deaths when done
for purely removing your character, so he still survives.
Found another group to play with.
GM did the jaw-drop too many times to count with our group. The fact
that we had three people very well versed in tactics was important,
but fate always seemed to ruin all his "plans"
BTW, he only had 3 items in a year of gaming. Robe of Stars, ring of
warmth, and bracers ac4.

Same guy above. Blew up(did I mention that he was a elementalist?)
the main Drow temple on the planet. Just incinerated the place.
Sneak into it(well, pretty much by accident - REALY REALLY REALLY
bad teleport spell out of Ravenloft) Fireball the main altar/magical
nexus the first round we are there, before anyone can react.
Next round I reduce the keystone at the top of the dome.
(He had Architecture as a profession and NWP and made the check)
Third round we all are out of there.
Not every day you get to be #1 on the Drow hit-list.
Of course, there was the time we all blew up a mountain...
Teach the GM to stockpile explosives where we can find them...

All mid 20's-30's

Games start at 3rd level and go up to about 15th level. Avg is
about 8-9.

Heh - nobody is prepared for us. Tries, though.

5/-5 - see note
The bad-guys? Always present. Us? The "Professor" on Gilligan's Island
had more to work with... Most of it is Drow as well.

1 - Life is harsh. We get 5-10K xp to start. Everyone gets the same.
New characters get 1/2 the lowest xp in the group. GM got tired of
2 hours to make a character, flesh out, and have it die from one hit.

1. Dragons are squishy-krunchy-adventurer time. Usually guarding
places of power.

Now silly names I can go with. How about "Wilbur the Dwarf"? Or the
Invoker "Remmah Yratilim" (think about it).
I wish TSR, TSR's novelists, *and* my Players, would *stop* making bad
"name puns" - like Drawmij & Xagyg from Greyhawk, Yawataht from "The
Wyvern's Spur", etc. etc. It was funny for the first, oh, decade or
so....

- Rainbow, "LA Connection"
We always drink a lot of alcoholic drinks during the game and end up waking
up in the middle of the city, not remembering a thing about the AD&D
session, let alone what happend afterwards. That's probably why we always
start at the beginning of the same adventure over and over again...
>> 2 - What is the most memorable character, which has ever played in your

Kreator, a good and noble dark-elf....who eventually became evil and was
killed by his own friends.
Or Ktulu, another good dark elf (different campaign though). His tongue was
cut out when he was a child, which made it a lot of fun to play him.
Eventually he was killed by a traitor in the group.
>> 3 - What and who was the luckiest character in your game
Jasco, the Elven Archer. He just never misses. But that also may be because
the player just always says it's a hit and the pretty drunk DM believes
him...

Save Randal Morn from an evil undead archmage, while stopping her from
summoning a demon.

>2 - What is the most memorable character, which has ever played in your game?
Thrandra the Paladin. She started out as Thrandy, but somewhere along the line
she changed sex (I can't remember how); turned lavender; and grew to fourteen
feet tall eating one side of a mushroom in EX1: Dungeonland. The players
apparently never read Alice in Wonderland, so they didn't know to eat from the
other side of the mushroom.
> 3 - What and who was the luckiest character in your game?
I don't know about the luckiest, but the unluckiest who never died permamently
was Throgar. He had an unerring ability to pick out the worst of the treasure
for himself, even though he studied gems. He also got killed by the same M-U
vampire (using Project Image) three times.
>4 - What is the biggest accomplishment, which the party has ever done?
Making an ancient huge green dragon run away
>5 - What is the average age of the players in your gaming group.
Now the range is 28-34. The campaigns I have been referring to were when we
were 16-18.
>6 - What is the average age of experience in your current gaming group?
20 years for two of us; 3 years for the other two.

4 , but more puzzles than typical Hack and
Slash

reached 1st yet.

5; My problem is I don't get enough
suggestions about what the players would
like.

2; I used to do a lot more when I had more
time than
money, but now I have more money than time.
I have been expanding Undermountain, but
that's about it.
