Hmm, I forget about weapon specialization. Either only fighters can
specialize, or fighters get more...
I DO remember that fighting style specializations are limited to 1 for
anyone except fighters who cna take sa many as they want to spend
proficiences on(CFHB.)
It is up to the DM - I believe the original 2nd edition rules said that Fighters
could but not Paladins or Rangers. A paladin will get a special type of
specialisation with lance and one weapon (plus all the other godies a paladin gets)
Rangers I tink should be allowed to specialise - But not at first level. I think
that a first level fighter class comming out with double specalisation in a weapon
is stupid.

Fighters are indeed the only ones allowed to specialize in a weapon but
they
cannot specialize in any _number_ of weapons, only _any_ weapon (pg.52 of
the
Players handbook).
If you want a warrior to be able to specialize in multiple weapons, you
should choose a gladiator from the Dark-Sun campaign setting.

OK, here's what I know (not sure on page numbers, sorry)
In the Fighters Hand Book (I don't own one, a player of mine does) it
states that any pure WARRIOR class may specialize in one weapon
(Ranger,Paladin,Fighter, inclusive, but not multi-classed). Only the
Fighter may specialize in more than one weapon. As for weapon groups,
see the Fighters Hand Book or the Dark Sun book as suggested above.

Only pure (read straight) Fighters can specialize in weapons. Rangers and
Paladins may not, although various kits make special exceptions or
emulate specialization.
On a personal note I agree with this rule, as it adds value to the
fighter class. Rangers and Paladins already have various quirks and bonuses.

As I recall any Warrior (inluding subclasses) may have all the
style-specializations, provided they have free slots for them.
Apologies on jumping in on an old thread that has probably been answered
