Does anyone have any information on the Lyssa Von Zarovich character?
I've heard her mentioned but know nothing about her. Profile? Background?
Stats?

Thanx!

Well, Lyssa von Zarovich is, I think, Strahd's neice. Basically, she's
a power-hungry be-atch who wants everything Strahd has. She also took
arguably the cheesiest way I can think of to gain power... she had a
ghost age her. Gee, I always sort of thought that ghosts couldn't do
that to fellow undead.

Anyway, her exact stats elude me at the moment, but I do remember
they're obscene: not a stat below 18. Plus, she somehow is able to
drain FIVE levels with her touch.

Normally, I'm not one to gripe about powerful characters, but this one
takes the cake. Five levels per hit is getting way overboard. Plus,
IMO, the character simply isn't interesting. Her goal in life is to
become ruler of Barovia. Other than that, there is nothing. No
tragedy, no dramatic flaws, no reason to actually care about the
character. She's just EEEEEVIL, without any substance. On his worst
day, Strahd is a better character.

Curious?? I thought the 'Von' title was a male only title. I could be wrong,
but I have always heard the title used with the man's name. This is the
first time I have ever seen it used with the woman's name alone. (Baron and
Baroness Von Golding, Baron Von Golding, Baroness Golding(Never Baroness Von
Golding) I know it is a family title, but I wonder if it a usage protocol.

Lyssa Von Zarovich can be found in -Thoughts of Darkness-, a Ravenloft
module. I can't recall, off the top of my head, whether or not she appears
in any other work. Her stats from -Thoughts of Darkness- are as follows:

Lyssa Von Zarovich: AL CE; AC -3; MV 18, FL 18
HD 11+1; hp 85; THACO 10; #AT 1; Dmg 1d4+6; SA
see below; SD regeneration; MR 15%; SZ M; ML 18
XP 12,000.

Lyssa's vampiric charm gaze imposes a -3 penalty against
saving throws. A +2 or better weapon is needed to hit her,
she regenerates 4 hit points per round, and she is immune to
garlic and mirrors. Lyssa also enjoys a particularly deadly
salient ability: her touch drains five energy levels from her
victims. She can be turned as a lich.

Lyssa von Zarovich is featured in two Ravenloft products...

"Thoughts of Darkness" by David Wise, an adventure involving her working with
an illithid to gain control of the domain of Bluetspur.

"Children of the Night: Vampires" by Paul Culotta and yours truly, an anthology
product featuring 13 different vampire NPCs and short adventures, Lyssa being
among them.

"We can't be certain who the villains are, 'cause everyone's so pretty."

Von is a German term meaning "from" (among other things). For instance,
Georg von der Lippe would be George from the Lip (of a river). Certain
ruling classes of princes and Junkers had the title and it was granted to
great Germans (like Goethe) as a honor. Since most of these social groups
were dominated by patriarchy, the majority were indeed men, but that's no
absolute and certainly no reason to rule out the possibility of a woman
with von in her name in your campaign.

"Von" loosely means "the son of the...," so yes, it is male only...

Now YOU take your character and tell her that...heh...
