At least the move to push all things 'Hawk has sparked a Living Greyhawk.
Please mail all your beligerant teen gamers (heavily armed or otherwise), power
gamers and munchkins to the Living Greyhawk as soon as possible to ease the
transition. Combine the power lust of certain Monty Haul Living City
atrocities with the natural obese treasure and magic item hoard fetish of
Greyhawk modules and we should soon be seeing modules that'd make H4 Throne of
Bloodstone blush for it's pitiful kill scores. Just remember, your Living City
character may be forced into retirement at 20th level, but in Greyhawk the sky
is always falling and six stripling heroes can do what millions of pitful and
moronic citizens can't!
There have been rumors that most, if not all Drizzt fanboys have already been
force marched to Nyv Dyr. Iuz take them!

How is this behind the curve John? We're just now getting drips and
dribbles about the LGH thing. A FAQ that doesn't answer many
questions, is what we have. If it weren't for Iquander giving out
what little info he's allowed to give, we would be completely in the
dark about what's going to happen to GH. At least you folks at the
Kargatane know what's up with RL; it may not be perfect but it's
better than being left hanging.
What I'd like to know is:
GH's the default world. That's cool... I think. Does this mean good
stuff like the Slavers, Giants, Temple, etc.? Or things like Return
to the Keep?
Will Iquander's gazetteer be put out on the non-RPGA market?
Will we get a new, updated wall map?
Will new GH gamers be able to get into GH without selling their souls
to the 2nd hand market?
What sort of thing does TSR have on tap for GH release? Not just the
classic rehashes in the works, but new stuff. Any book o' gods
forthcoming? OOP CD-ROM?
Etc. Etc. :-)

As a long time fan of GH i want proper support for GH , ie i want boxed
sets by the ton , expansions , supplements , maps, novels etc .
I want arcane age GH in the time of the Suel Imperium, a proper guide to the
Great Kingdom , and what about books on the areas we hear so little of ?,
ket, tusmit, ekbir, the tiger nomads, the paynims (sp?), all the western lands
that get barely a mention.
And novels , lets lay to rest the shame we endured under the novels of Rose
Estes(destroyer of words), you want books about drow?, lets visit the Vault
again, barbarians ? which kind frost, ice ,snow ? demons? lets pay Iuz's
father a visit , mystery? blackmoor .
I used to be in the rpga and the stories / articles where okay but nothing
like as good as some of the goodies in the realms expansions. Ok i admit the
realms are for power gamers and kids but hopefully this could be avoided .
Whats the point of making GH the core world if we get (relative amateurs),
writing about it , the realms have had so many good writers , but lets leave
the realms to rot for a bit and get some good stuff out for GH .
As it should be

Heh. That's very partisan of you. <g> FR is a good "complete"
campaign setting. (A sewing analogy: GH is like buying a pattern and
cloth which you would use to tailor your own clothes; FR is like
buying a nice suit ready made.) I don't think GH should go this
route. In fact, the less campaign supplements the better imo (after a
certain point). The problem with GH right now is a lack of basic
material. I'd hate to be a new player (or esp. a DM) trying to get
into GH right now.
If wishes were fishes, I'd cast this net:
An OOP Greyhawk CD with all the old products
A nice fat world book along the lines of Domains of Dread but...
With a decent, detailed, updated map
And (maybe) a Faith & Avatars -like god book
After that, I'd rather have TSR leave well enough alone.
The nice thing about Greyhawk USED to be the small amount of detail we
had about the setting. Nowadays, however, you can't swing a dead
member of the Circle of Eight without hitting a Scarlet Brotherhood
operative or an Orcish Empire...
Anyway, what info TSR has let out is okay by me (LGH, default world,
minimal setting supplements, lock the timeline at CY 591, etc.). It's
what I don't know that's buggin' me. :-)

What don't you like about Return? We're playing it and it's quite
enjoyable.

Oh, it seems like a cool module. In fact, I've been thinking about
running it for our group next campaign break. It's just sort of...
weird... as a Greyhawk module.

Oh, so you never have played GH then...

I have always looked at FR more like a patchwork quilt. You have your basic
fantasy milieu, and then add "patches" to it for the celtic setting, the
arabian setting, the kara tur setting, the native american setting, etc.

I would definitely like for TSR to release an updated Word of Greyhawk,
partly for the updated material and partly to get more maps.

You may send them there too. Alternate destinations may also include the
equally cleverly named Erypt or Nippon regions.

Before you buy.
I have, that's where my paladin with the strength score of 20 got a +5 lance
at 1st level
...and which GH module for 1st level characters has a lance +5 in it? Maybe
your STR of 20 and your lance +5 are more a result of your DM than the
campaign setting.
Yeah! When I started out in a GH campaign, I only got Raimundo, the
Elastic Weasel!
OK, now mind you, we *were* playing Castle Greyhawk...

Again, it seems that a lot of players forget that the DM is the one that
actually gives out the magic items, bonuses, etc that make or break a
campaign... I've given out too much one time in a campaign I led and
learned my lesson pretty good... The campaign I'm running now is on
the borderline of too much, but the party has no idea what's in store
for them... Oh, we are in Greyhawk... the Lordship of the Isles to be
exact...
Moronic DMs that give out ridiculous treasure and allow stats higher than
possible are not campaign dependent.
