I have been considering running a campaign using Sahuagin as the major
enemies. Has anyone bought the recent Monstrous Arcana adventures
featuring the Sahuagin? If so, could you post a synopsis of the plot of
the trilogy and if the modules are worthwhile?

thanks.

I bought Evil Tide, have read it, but have not yet ran it. It's not bad,
although there's not a whole lot to it. The characters have to
investigate an underwater maze of caves, find a lost "archaeologist" (I
use the term, not the module), and figure out why the sahuagin are so
interested in this little island. Again, not a lot to it, but if you
own the supplement outlining the sahuagin, you'll find they can be nasty
little beasts.

I would suggest creating your own adventure using the sahuagin as the
main evil race of monsters in the game. I haven't read the other two in
the series so I have no comment.

By the way, Evil Tide did clear up one important point I had been
pondering since buying Of The Ships And Sea. The swimming rules
given in this supplement seem to contradict the swimming rules in
the PHB, but they do not really. It mentions in the beginning of
the module that the rules for swimming in OS&S are underwater rules,
whereas the rules in the PHB are for surface swimming.

You might also consider picking up a copy of the first edition module
"the Final Enemy". It's challenging, and deals with sahuagin...

Was the Order to Slay given because of the Sign of the Goat found on the
ancient Roman crypt beneath the cathedral, or because the Dark Man of
the Haute Vienne Coven spoke the Three Words?

Right you are, I missed the header (leave it to me). I started a new
campaign based on sea adventuring and have found OS&S a great source
of information for running it.

As for Evil Tide, I liked the module. My comment about "not much to it"
was refering to the length of the adventure. I haven't yet bought the
other two in the series - guess I should have made that a little more
clear. I will say this to anyone running the module, if you use the
supplement detailing sahuagin, you may want to make sure your players
have characters of sufficient level to begin it. The sahuagin are
deadly!

Or download it from TSR's website along with the 2 other modules which are
part of the trilogy; 'Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh' and 'Danger at
Dunwater'.

The Monstrous Arcana supplement THE SEA DEVILS would definitely be
worth a look for you if you plan to use them as a major villain. It details
their biology, abilities, culture, motivations, etc. I highly recommend it!

I've got the SEA DEVILS and the first new module EVIL TIDE. For me it
totally changed my perception of Sahuagin - they are truly nasty. Until
I read these my mental picture of the Sahuagin was the (in my opinion)
barely threatening illustration of a sea devil in MM1. The newer
illustrations bring out the true fear you'd experience if you ever saw
one of these creatures. SEA DEVILS paints a truly scary picture of a
race where everyone is a clone, because hatchlings that aren't perfect
become appetizers for mommy.

I am running a group through U1-U3 right now, so they will run into the
Sahuagin soon, then moving onto EVIL TIDE...assuming they know how to
retreat in time when U3 gets too hot. You need smart party to survive
these sentient pirahnas.
