Just out of curiousity, as I've never seen their stats (I just
know that Drizzt is a 15th level ranger and Wulfgar is a 9th level
fighter), who'd win in such a fight (or Drizzt vs. Elaith OR Entreri
vs. Elaith OR Entreri vs. Arilyn)? Just wondering. Oh, and I'm
talking about a fight determined by swordcraft, not the use of any of
Drizzt's innate spell abilities or Guenhwyvar nor the use of the
special abilities of the moonblade. Just one-on-one fighting.

Which makes it that much easier to whip out a calculator and figure
it out yourself, assuming that the two are just going to try to hack
each other into the ground. If you don't use critical hits, then it's
even easier. :-)

Ye gods, I was hoping all the xyz vs. zyx threads died a _long_ time ago!

But to answer your question, I think that Drizzt would win. I think that
in one of the FR accessories (Hall of Heroes, I think), TSR published
Drizzt's stats, and he has a special ability (percentage chance) that
allows him to automatically kill any opponent. So it would only take him a
few hits --- and considering his THAC0 of 6, +4 and +3 scimitars,
two-weapon fighting style at no penalty, etc., it shouldn't take long.

Oh come on usenet gods of r.g.f.d, let's ignore the FAQ just this
once. ;)

If you're curious about Drizzt and Entreri, read the books.
They've fought against each other, and together, numerous times.

And forget about fights determined by swordcraft, or by stats.
Strategy, luck, and the use of _all_ skills would tell who won,
and since we're not the authors of those characters, we could
only speculate.

Whoever the DM wants to win. Unless they're being played as PCs, in

First of all, thanks to everybody who even glanced at the original
post.

*GETTING DOWN TO BUSINESS...*
I would just like to take this opportunity to say that I had no
idea that the vs. questions were _that_ annoying or frequently asked
enough to be included in a FAQ file. In fact, I had no idea that there
_was_ a FAQ file (perhaps gut feeling but no proof). From now on,
nobody will have to worry about me posting vs. questions ever again as
after my first week or so, I've gained a bit more knowledge and
experience when it comes to newsgroups (ok very little compared to the
vast amount of knowledge there is). I'll just stick to questions like:

*QUESTION* If a Vocalize spell (see Complete Wizard's Handbook or Pages
from the Mages - it basically removes the need for a verbal component
for any spells cast after it) is cast before a Power Word spell (or
heck, any spell with a verbal-only component), are there any signs of
spellcasting (PO: Spells & Magic talks about subtlety but I want to
keep things from getting _too_ carried away)?

*YET ANOTHER QUESTION* In spells with no somatic component but _with_ a
material one, what does one do to the material? Nothing? Leave it in
the component pouch where it may be and it mystically vanishes?

Feel free to comment on, I guess, anything.

*BEFORE I FORGET...* Would someone kindly tell me where I may be able
to d/l a copy of the FAQ for this newsgroup (I don't want to make
anymore errors like the versus question)? Thanks in advance,

Actually if you really want know all of Drizzt's stat's and abilities
were published in the Menzo... boxed set. This is an updated version
of the " Hall of Heros " publication. Including new equipment that he
aquired in subsequent books. If you really want it e-mail me.

The Answer is Drizzt. This is because Arilyns speed is completely
derived from the moonblade. She is not nearly as fast without it, as
shown in Silver Shadows. Drizzt however depends more on his inate
speed. against Wulfgar the answer is again Drizzt. this was shown many
times in all the books. But Drizzt would not fight either one of them
nor would they fight Drizzt.

Her two-handed skill is augmented by magical speed, aye.
In any case, that moonblade would not harm an innocent.

depends upon whether you are the DM or not
if you look at Dragon Kings (from Dark Sun) there is a nice set of
optional rules that basically say that for every spell no matter how
subtle there is some visual, aural, tactile and/or olfactory side effect
this is nice if you are the DM otherwise dont let the bugger hear about
it and argue your point ruthlessly

Q2
again up to the DM but usally I would say that at the very least you
would need to be touching the component and be aware of if not holding it
in your hands.

From what I've read and seen in of the character's stats, I would say that the
rankings in an all out tournament would be:

1: Drizzt
2: Entreri/Jarlaxle (either one)
3: Arilyn/Cattibrie (either one)

It is realy a toss-up in the case of the above four.

4: Elaith/Wulfgar/Bruenor (Any)
5: Thibbledorf(?) Pwent (amusing little character)

Now you take a fighter that uses 1 longsword, give him weapon
specialization, At 3rd level he has 1attack-then 2 attacks.At 7th
level he has 2 attacks per Round.

Now you take a fighter that with his right hand he gets 2 attacks and
with his left he gets 2 attacks but with - to hit because he is not
ambidextrous.

Now you take Drizzt, a DARK ELF ranger, rangers being natually
ambidextrous,has 2 attacks with a +4 Defender in one hand and 3
attacks with + 3 Frostbrand at his 15th leve. Drow Elves in the
Forgotten Realms are the BEST fighters. They get special abilities at
High levels.Drizzt can Decapitate on a To Hit Roll of 16 or Better,or
Fataly wound him with only 3 Points of Damage on a 16 or better. Im
not sure the Percentage Chance though.

I hope this helps.

From what I have read it would "definitley"? go as following:

1. Drizzt Do'Urden
2.Zanknafein Do'Urden (Drizzt's Father & teacher, responsible for the
good in Drizzt)
3.Artemis Entreri
4.Arilyn
5.Jarl Axle
6.Bruenor Battlehammer
7.Wulfgar
8.Thibbledorf Pwent
9.Catti-brie
10.Elaith

Which orifice you pull that information out of.

1. Dark elves are not the best fighters in FR ; they average about 5th
level and are physically weaker than humans, other elves etc. They make
better clerics. As fighters they only end up with a few minor mgical
abilities. However all dark elves are natrually ambidextrous (though I
got that last piece of info out of unearthed arcanna rather than a second
edition product.

2. Here are Drizzt's abilities from the latest source which also matches
his Menzoberranzan entry

Double damage if he scores 3 higher than what he needs to hit, backstab
ability x5 damage, base 10% plus or minus 3% chance per lvl difference

Drizzt is one of the most powerful characters in the Forgotten Realms.
With his intelligence application of magical items (placing bracers of
speed around his ankles so that his feet can keep up with his hands),
powerful allies (mainly Bruenor and Wulfgar...read the new novel for that
scoop), and just plain experience. All one needs to see is that with all
of Drizzt's resources, the only person I can see of beating him would be
Elminster or one of the Seven Sisters.

I don't think that all of those FR characters really are NPCs, exactly. Whe-
ther they're actually played in campaigns or not, they are effectively char-
acters belonging to the novelist or designer who dreamed them up.
