This goes back about thirty years, so unless there are some old-timers
here I may be barking up the wrong tree.

There was a booklet called "Ares..." (most likely) or "Mars..." in a red
jacket, with black lettering and graphics, that I used to own. It
carried extensive lists of combat resolution tables for melee, small
arms, etc. mostly for 20th century arms and combat. I have done
extensive Googling over the past few months with no success in coming up
with the complete name, publisher, or any other specific information
about it.

If anyone can assist me in helping to track down some specifics, I'd
like to be able to search for a copy of it somewhere and bring it back
into my library for some gaming coordination and expansion.

I don't know of any such book, but I am forwarding this message to

someone may be familiar with it.

That's not what I remembered the name to be but thirty years makes some
specific memories a little fuzzy; it sure sounds like the booklet I am
looking for. The age is right and FASA sounds very familiar for it. Nice
job! Thank you all for your assistance.

Yep, that is the booklet. Seeing the pic online brought back some
memories. Now I can get myself a copy.

He might also want to look at http://www.abebooks.com. It's
what I use when I can't find a book I'm looking for.

Going here wouldn't hurt either:
http://forums.abebooks.com/abesleuthcom

You might not be directly searching the abebook database,
but you get even more people helping you look for the book.
