So, as a newb, my question would be which Empire exists today. Is it
the kill or be killed Empire, where the weak die fast? Or is there a
bit of the old Empire left, where a player that was no threat could
pine away his time just figuring out what the heck he was doing,
without getting invaded from every side (wink)?

This Empire of today is the one where you will be immediately pegged as
fodder (w/o even knowing why), and suddenly, without warning wiped out
completely. This will happen....oh, you winked...
