Unfortunately, the speculators will be able to get top dollar in a few
months when the ratio of UL to L cards is 10:1 and people want the black
bordered cards for their "coolness" factor.

Funny, the white-bordered cards look just fine to me; different, sure,
but not in any meaningful way. Sure, I'll mix in my 90 black-border
cards, but I value affordability and playability above collectability.

The stores I've seen them at so far are rationing. Hey, at least they
got them out in time for Christmas.

SRP is *definitely* more affordable than 2x.
Unfortunately, from my limited sample it doesn't appear that the
game will be any easier to play, since the distribution is still
screwy. I was extremely fortunate with the limited edition in getting
a (barely) playable two-affiliation deck out of one starter and two
boosters; many people weren't anywhere near as lucky. I'd say that it
will take an average of $50 of UL cards (2 starters, 10 boosters) to
get a mix of cards suitable for building one or two decent decks.
Sounds kind of puny compared to my Magic habit, but that's a price
that could scare off a lot of people.

That isn't totally correct. The print run of the Unlimited cards is EXACTLY
the same as the limited edition. As a matter of fact, approx 46 million.
Therefore the ration of UL to L cards it 1:1
Now revised, that will be different story. So essentially the only thing
that black board has going for it is its coolness factor. Suffice it to
say that I own Black border, but I am willing to throw in some white if I am
missing some black.

Well, that would be the current print run. There is supposed to be another
UL release in January, making UL to L 2:1. Has Decipher actually said that
there will only be a limited number of "unlimited" printed? Have they
actually said that there will be a "revised" printing (sounds too much like
M:tG)?
