Tough choice.
Angband/Moria probably are at the very top.
Next would be a few games form the 8-bit era. Archon and Empire
(TRS-80 program, not the PC version), and such.
Top one of all time? Easy.
Elite.
To date, nothing has the flexability to storyline or potential
patsh to follow. The later Frontier was even better - just
everything you wished it would be.
THere is an Elite III in the works - and when it comes out -
hold onto your hats. Stories, empires, 100,000+ planets to
visit, the works. A good clone of it is Ambrosia Software's
Escape Velocity series, but Elite was just so much better.
There's an Elite 4 in the works. You've probably missed First Encounters,
which was basically a buggy Frontier with better graphics, ugly ships
added, and a scripted story line. And much, much tougher combat.

Begone, infidel!
There was not,
is not,
will not be
a game, better than Stars!
And for all of you followers, that hadn't stood against that heresity,
may each of our beloved Stars! game in each turn proclaim you an usurper!

I had archon II on the atari-800... I wished they'd remake some of those
old 8-bit games, like archon and archon II... I loved both of them!

Ave.
Well, I happen to have both Archons on PC - downloaded from some
abandonware site. Try www.the-underdogs.org or links provided there.
My preferences depends on if it is online games or offline games.
As offline games I liked elite alot but also angband is pretty cool.
Also the old game faith for the amiga was pretty cool back then.
For online games I like my own games the best :)

My favorate console game is resident evil not the light gun games but

quite good.

I'll add my vote to that :)

My Favourite Offline game must be medal of honor and all the 2 add on
packs. There is so much action in the game. And it is such a addictive
game
My top two are X-Com(plus TFTD) and Elite(various versions).
Both are still amazingly good to play, even after this time.
I remember having bad dreams in X-Com because when it was night and
you had to save a city from invasion, things crept up on you and
started firing from the dark and then the things with big mouths
tried to eat you and plasma flew everywhere...
Then your troops got controlled and started firing back at you...
Classic game. So few today have that unseen enemy movement anymore.
Deus Ex was very close in that the AI had the characters move around
and you had to deal with that. Halflife is the typical Doom model - placed
monsters that activate when their models make LOS to you. 360 degree
fully aware at that(ick).
Elite... well, it's still amazing to play.
Avatar is a FREE graphical multi-user dungeon game with a great community.
Please check it out.

My favourite game wolud have to be Hitman 2 on PS2, Pro Evolution
Soccer 2, the first ever WWE Wrestle Mania for Super Nintendo and
finally Super Mario also on the Super Nintendo.
My favourite game of all time has to be Dungeon Master. Great old
classic RPG that i enjoyed playing on the Amiga :)
my fave game at the moment would have to be unreal tournament 2003
does need a powerful computer though but the level editor is so simple
to use in fact i probably spend more time messing about with that than
actually playing, my all time fav game would have to be super mario
world on the snes an oldie but a goodie.
If you look, you may find several free Dungeon Master
clones/remakes/sequals out in the last year or two.
Angband/Moria
Typical computer type game?
Elite.

Have to say Championship manager of reasont games is good but best

In rec.games.computer.stars we only know about really good old strategy games.
