Hi!

I've been playing Ultima IV for a while now, but now I can't proceed,
because I have no ship. I've run up and down the coasts, but failed to
run into any pirate ships to conquer.

Is there any other way to get a ship, possibly buy one, or do I have to
continue searching the coasts until I find one? (probably boring me so
much in the process that I'll stop playing... :(

Thanks

No, in Ultimas 3 and 4, the only way to procure a boat is to wait for
pirates to show up and take possession of theirs.

I remember waiting for boats as being one of the more frustrating parts
of each game (along with waiting for Brass Buttons in Ultima 2).

Sorry to disappoint,
Bill

It's a good idea to do that on an island, like Jhelom's, so that
land-based monsters won't spawn and attack you while you're waiting.

Instead of running up and down the coasts, plant yourself in one spot that
is surrounded as much as possible with a lot of open water. <PASS> time
away and a ship will come along shortly.
Don't *search* for it, let it come to you.

As the game progressed for me, I kept running into so many pirate
ships which i had defeated and parked all over the world in key locations
that the surface world of the game started running out of memory (at least
I'm told that this was the cause) and deleting my old ships to make
room for newer ones!

Once you have got one ship you can ´make´ dozens of them with a little
trick. Sail down to avatar island (south of moonglow) and look for the
pirate´s nest. Show up on the entry, wait a turn and then sail north.
You´ll have to watch the wind of course. Dont try to fight them or let them
fire cannons, keep them moving north. At least two or three ships will
follow you. Enter the port of moonglow and immediately exit the ship, once
your on the coast. Now fight the pirates one by one. You can repeat this as
often as you like.
