I was hoping for a better, longer drawn-out ending. That shot of Raven's
cleavage was pretty damned nice though, too bad that wasn't an actress or I
wouldn't be feeling like I need psychological help.

I can't quite put it into words. It's just that after all that I wanted
more than just click-click - okay go to credits, game's over after all those
hours I put in to the game. More epilogue there, come on! The scene where
the avatar walks all over the castle to say goodbye to everyone, that
should've been a movie scene I think, perhaps where the 9 of them get
together for a drink (10 if you count British). And they should've shown
all 8 people putting the runes in the columns - repetitive I know, but
thorough.

And I would've liked a movie-type epilogue, perhaps showing all the people
in Britannia getting back to the virtues, doing things, showing the 8
companions teaching virtue etc., and maybe the Avatar back on earth looking
into it or thinking about it. And what about the guardian? They show him
getting vaporized, but so what? Drive that home!

Those are just ideas that filled my head. I wanted more finality than okay,
guardian's dead, legacy is over.

Big disappointment. Big huge hairy disappointment (of the ending, the
series was magnificent).

Having said that, I'm glad I played the game. I'm a way-way-back Ultima fan
and this is the most magnificent game I've ever played hands down. I really
enjoyed exploring all of those gorgeous 3D worlds. Someday every adventure
game is going to be this explicit graphically but the technology will have
caught up to it and perhaps surpassed it.

I'd like to hear from other people who have finished the game. What'd you
think of the game overall? What'd you think of the ending?

Thanks
Joe

Yeah, you are right. It tooks me several weeks to complete the game (I
could only play like one day a week) and I enjoyed it very much. More
than any Ultima I have played before, and I know most of the old games.

The ending of U9 nearly brought tears to my eyes... Saying Good-Bye to
my old comrades (including Raven and Lord British) and knowing that
"This is it! The last game! The last ending! No more Ultimas, never
again!". Oh boy. :'-(

> And I would've liked a movie-type epilogue, perhaps showing all the people

That would have been cool. The short movie with the Guardian and the
Armageddon was nice, but a little bit short. :-( They could have done
some additional ending-scenes with the in-game graphics if rendering a
movie was too expensive.

What I really missed was some "Ascension" in the last movie!! After all
this is the name of the game! Instead I got vaporised! :-(

Anyway, Ultima 9 was a great game and and I had great fun the whole
time.

Greetings, Alexander.

say, you´re goddam right! all this work, the riddles ( oh, well, they were not
that hard ) the fights and especially the heartbreaking goodbye of the avatar
and raven - but no additional scenes at the end, no chance to view all the
(fabulous!) rendering scenes from this last ultima again....... and uo is´nt
real ultima..... it´s nice but no good for me

You can watch the movies again. They are the *.dat-Files on the CD-Rom.
Just open them in the Windows Mediaplayer, they are MPEG-1 Videos.

Have fun, Alexander.

Originally, I figured that some of the ending was supposed to make you
wonder. There was much debate over the ending of Pagan - where did
you end up? Britannia? Earth? The Guardian's homeworld? Same with
Ascension - did you and the Guardian really die, or were you banished
someplace? Debate and discussion brings about hope and desire for the
next game. Granted, Garriott said that Ascension was the last game
where you play the Avatar, but the Avatar could play a part in
whatever next game ended up to be. Perhaps he became some sorta "Time
Lord" like figure.

Now, given the state of Origin and the departure of Garriott, it's
anyone's guess. :/

.... i read and article in a german magazin, that origin registered an site
named ultimax, so there will probably be a next generation ultima? but what
would be the use of it? on one hand, they want to end the ultima series and on
the other, the plan a sequel-series? i´d say that something does´nt match
here....

anyone read also about the website?

which magazine was that and when? Garriots plan was to make an Ultima X or
just X (when last he spoke about it while being with Origin).
AFAIK EA stated that there will only be online games now developed by
Origin (if they don´t dismantle it alltogether).
