That's easily enough traffic for a new newsgroup, I should think.

I'll whip up a RFD charter for a new group and post it here, where we
can make changes to it. Then it can be sent off to
news.announce.newsgroups for discussion / voting. It'd take a month or so
for it to go through the channels and be created, but it might be worth it
in the long run.
What do you think-- rec.games.computer.ultima.online.guilds?

Are we a guild or are we the newsgroup? Where do you get the idea that
1000's of people read our tripe? What if it turns out that 65% of the
people who read this group are actually interested and/or have already
joined the rangers?
Well, only way to know is if people speak out and tell us to shutup.

Well, since this is currently just for the SBR, how about:
rec.games.computer.ultima.online.guilds.SBR
Thales aka Ranger Ifurita ot the Skara Rangers
I think 'they' are usually pretty finicky about creating new groups in
the main heirarchies like rec.* I think a .guild group could go
through but im unsure about an sbr specific one.

Probably will have a lot more luck with alt.games.computer.ultima.......

I think we should try to go for the rec -group, otherwise we'll have people nuking the group for months before it's left alone..
And I do think we have valid reasons to expand this tree one branch..

Yes, you could have an alt group pretty quick. You don't have to jump
through hoops for one. The drawback is the propagation isn't as good. It
wouldn't hurt to give it a try and see if it suits. It may even help you
*get* that rec group if you can prove a viable alt group in your RFD.

It's too specific... There's no telling how long this sort of traffic
will hold up JUST for the SBR guild. Just plain guild talk, though, has a
good chance of going through.
The only reason I would say otherwise is personal experience. I used to
play on the Battletech:3056 MUSE, which was quite large. People used
rec.games.mecha to discuss things (this was really before web based
msg boards, so *everyone* used rec.games.mecha ... granted there were
only like 5000 players as opposed to 100k, but hey :)
The volume of posts far exceeded that of SBR and for a much longer time.
Not only that, but like SBR our posts started with [3056] (as opposed
to [SBR]), but there were 4-5 *other* MU*s that also generated traffic
(just to a lesser degree). After about 1.5 years of basically dominating
the NG in ways rgcuo hasnt even begun to imagine with SBR posts, we
applied for rec.games.mecha.muse and was told that the nature of the
topic was too transiatory.
Granted, that was in 95, and the net was a lot different now, but
just a bit of a heads up.
