Hey guy and gals,

I figure, if the pker's won't let me recover my losses or not allow me
to play period, that I will just give my gold to somebody and drop out.

My newbie miner got pk'ed (thanks T'arin) last night at the
mountain south of Minoc (Chesapeake). I found a wandering healer and
figured I had nothing to lose and went back for my stuff. T'arin and
another red both had the good grace not to kill me again. I was very
surprised, heheh.

Believe it or not, many PKs don't want to kill newbies, with some
exceptions: Miners, Lumberjacks/bowyers. To be frank, it isn't worth the
time and reagents (or the 40 hours).

That leaves tailors that can't be killed because they are in the guard zone.

Exactly, you don't go after the rich people who are heavily defended *cough
instakill guard* you go after the rich people who are weak.

That's because you had nothing left to lose, and unless they were
permared and didn't care, they could macro off your last murder. It's
all about items. That's the way the system is set up. Of course, you
have the jerks who kill for no reason, and you have those who kill for
the challenge (rarity IME). It won't change.

Actually most of the good tailors are out there hunting animals to get hides.
After all there's no other way to get to GM than sewing leather.

Sheesh! That made me think of something I have to check out.

You do know you do not have to hunt to get hides right? The real serious
tailors that are going for gold never hunted for the hides, they just knew
how to work the shop spawn for several thousand hides every 20 minutes or
so. This was a really popular technique for players from Japan on Baja. One
of the reasons they ended up with a ton of towers on the West Coast shards.

Wow......thousands of hides? Never seen more than 20 in an NPC vendor. And they
Actually take like 30 mins to respawn. (everything takes 30 mins to respawn
damnit, specially those damn regs, hehe) That'd be like 40 hides in an hour
which is much more less than you can actually make in one hour of hunting.

Heh. I know of a spot where the hinds spawn so fast one can get 1000s(!)
of hides in an hour if you work at it long enough. Our GM-to-be tailor
has been pounding the hides for weeks and is still at 95. She's getting
frustrated, even with that kind of production. Oh well, we'll keep
trying for her. :)

No, spawn goes up by 9 every 20-30 minutes if you buy them out every time.

The favorite place for buying hides used to be the Ocllo tannery by the
docks. I would guess this was because they didn't have to deal with as many
newbie thieves stealing their hides. That and the thieves had little use
several hundred hides.

They would buy so many hides at one time that they wouldn't fit in their
packs, they would just drop to the floor and they would stand on them while
tailoring. Wasn't unusual at all to go by the shop and see 3-5 characters
standing on top of several thousand hides tailoring away. I thought it was a
very sharp ploy; while every other power gamer in the game was fighting over
thread spools and trying to sell fancy shirts, they were making female
bondage armor and selling it to every provisioner and blacksmith in the
game.

For someone looking for GM tailor, like Janey/Mari for instance, I think
working the shop spawn for one night would be the way to go.

Sounds like a plan.

Back in the day I would sit in Ocllo hide shop and buy them every spawn.
Sometimes they had 900 hides. Made 17k in 2 days and bought my house.
(Which, at the time was 22k) Man, those were the days!
