In case you were not aware the new patch goes in today! That is according to
the UO web site anyway! Finally my Macer can do some real damage!! Woo Hoo!!

Say it ain't so!! WAAAAHHHH!!! All this suffering with weakness, because I
did not wish to carry a halberd or crossbow like the rest of the in-crowd!!!
They mention certain weapons doing more/less damage to certain
monsters and/or character types. This sounds very good and
certainly would make the true warrior type (skilled in Maces,
Fencing, and Swords) a lot more appealing to play..
Anyone have an idea of how it all breaks down tho? Any Test Center
folks with first hand experience here as to what bruises what the
most?

Ironically I started as a fencer! Now I am GM Mace and Tactics, after 6
grueling months, and really have waited anxiously for this patch to fix my
weapon of choice!
With my first Jadesfyre that I started way back in September 1997, she used
mace as her weapon of choice and thought it a very good weapon indeed to use
in Hythloth against the orcs. I deleted her in Feb(don't ask) and started a
new Jadesfyre keeping the mace tradition. Too bad they changed things with
this weapon class. I started using swords some months ago to try and raise
my strength but I have since let it drop. I do not wish to change my weapon
of choice but I would like it to do more damage against monsters.
Hopefully I see some improvement when the patch comes in.

In 20 minutes of dummie bashing with my (former--has been looted!)
kryss my Dex went from 10 to 18 but my Strength only went up 2 pts.

I haven't tried my fencer yet, but I do know that my Mage (GM Maces)
does some very sweet damage now against monsters. I tried a couple
different weapons:
--An Exceptionally made War Axe VS Earth E...Pretty darn good. I was
impressed. It probably did the equivalent damage of my Hammer Pick
of Might before the patch.
--An Eminently Accurate Maul of Might VS Earth E...This was
surprisingly nasty! It's extra speed combined with the Tactics
boost really made a difference. You can rotate through a EE fairly
quickly with one of these.
--A Hammer Pick of Might VS Earth E...When it hit, it did a ton of
damage. About 5-6 hits and the EE was toast. Not bad for a "Might"
weapon without any other modifiers. In all honesty tho, I think the
aforementioned Maul took them down quicker tho. Not as much DG per
swing with it, but you got a lot more hits in in the same time
period.
I've still got a War Axe of Power and a War Mace of Power to try. My
guess is EE's aren't going to last long against these, which is as
it should be methinks.
How this compares with the other combat skills, I dunno. But without
the stamina modifier I'd think that fencing should be the leader at
present for overall damage. I'll give my guy a try tho and see what
happens.

We'll see about that. Anyway, they do claim to have implemented the server patch
with some important changes, mostly good.

I didn't realize there was a patch since UO's site is so befuddled now. When
I noticed you had to open an animals corpse to get the hides and meat I
realized it was so.
I immediately went back to town and Darius is now proudly wearing his new
surcoat. I just couldn't see making a jester's suit. In my opinion the
surcoat is too short, but with a kilt it looks great.
Later I was fighting a grizzly. I wasn't really paying that much attention
to the combat because I was tailoring the hides of a panther I had just
killed. When I noticed the bear's health bar was halfway down and I had
hardly been scratched, I knew another change had occured. *Whack!* My
halberd took another quarter of his life.
Woohoo! Bring on the ettins!

And who proposed that change, the Looter's Guild?

Didn't care for it on Venture, but it looks decent on Aria.
And for the record, tailors won't buy surcoats and (AFAICT) don't spawn
them, so they'll never have them. You must go to PCs for them. Tunics are
worth 19 (for 12 units) and jester suits 24 (for 14), which puts them well out
of the running on the tailoring power curve.

Yep. Venture was laying the smack down on Orcs like I couldn't believe.
And when I went to carve a new bow at the start of the day, like I always do,
with Bowcrafting in the mid fifties, I got an exceptional bow on the first
shot....

As far as I can figure out, they did this for the non-tailors who would skin
the animal and leave the hides laying on the ground instead of putting them
on the corpse. So now, we are at risk of losing the hides and meat even if
we aren't attacked by someone nearby while we grab them.
It's quite a pain.
