Well, hit a wall of lag last night while standing at the Yew bank. I
had 500 gold on me, a rune, a com-crystal, and bow and arrows.

"Jimmy Ray" started snooping and trying to steal the 500 gold (too
heavy for him), then attempting to steal the rune.

And I couldn't move.

At all.

I yelled BANK to dump this stuff back in the bank box and it took
*forever* to see the bank box.

Couldn't drag stuff INTO the bank box for a lost connect.

So now I'm extremely pissed. Patch day *always* does this to me. And
stealing from a lag-paralized victim is the lowest of the low.

I managed to reconnect and all he had was my rune. I threw everything
else in the bank.

Someone else said he'd stolen from me and I say, "Yeah, I know, I was
lagged so bad I couldn't move."

I yelled "GUARDS!" and he got whacked, but of course my rune was in
his bank box by then. He insta-rezz'd.

"And he took my RUNE! I have 500 gold he could have taken and he took
my rune instead!"

It was *really* all I could do to keep from spewing a stream of
profanity at the guy that would have guaranteed I never see that rune
again.

Thieves, I hate you. You all suck. I hope you get bored and quit UO.
I hope you get NPK'd every time you leave town. I hope all your other
characters get PK'd a lot. I hope your house gets broken into, looted,
and has mules logged off inside. I hope your ghost gets flourbagged
after GM hours. I hope that whatever can possibly happen to make you
hate and quit UO does happen. You suck. And on top of that, you all
suck. And I don't mean your characters, I mean *you*, because your
"fun" in this game is at the expense of others. You aren't adding
anything to the game. It doesn't make it more "fun" for me to be
picked clean while lagged to death or losing connection just because
DIGEX sucks almost as much as you suck. You are the suckiest things
that ever sucked. And you suck.

But instead of saying something like that, I asked if he'd sell me the
rune back. He just said "here" and plopped it on the ground. I paid
him 100 gold anyway.

Then I needed to get home and still could just barely move. I asked
if anyone would sell me a recall scroll, and Jimmy Ray gave me one,
"Here, I stole this last week," he says.

Gee. Thanks.

Okay, maybe you don't ALL suck.

I still hate thieves, though.

Damn thieving thieves.

Thief encounter #469: I now use a bank that has few thieves in it, but
this morning I was on as Cheif G, Hekawi Tribe BiG cHeF, inside the
banking wing of Empath Abbey in Yew, which is generally infested with
thieves. I was dropping off some bows I made for the next Hekawi
event (THIS SUNDAY !!!) when I see "You notice Ramona trying to steal
a heavy crossbow from you" - so I move some open packs out of the way,
and this Blue-named NPC-looking character is standing next to me. So
I yell for the guards, and Ramona gets whacked. After a few seconds
she insta-rezzes, and the first words out of her mouth are "was that
nice?" Excuse me? What do I look like, a moron? (no Hekawis better
answer that). So I said "yeah, was it good for you?" and walked away.

Dundee, I too hate bank thieves more than anything else in this game.
If anyone playing this game most needs to GET A LIFE !!!, it's bank
thieves.

Actually I started thieving because I was bored. I will never quit UO
though.

>I hope you get NPK'd every time you leave town.

Not everytime but it does happen often. I look at it as part of the game.

>I hope all your other characters get PK'd a lot.

Yes they do. A minor inconvenience but it is part of the game.

>I hope your house gets broken into, looted, and has mules logged off

Goodness this has happened several times. But where are the mules? I have
never seen mules
in Britannia. :p Who cares? Pets are a royal pain in the arse anyway.

>I hope your ghost gets flourbagged after GM hours.

Flourbagged? Can't say this has ever happened to me.

>I hope that whatever can possibly happen to make you hate and quit UO does

I don't forsee that happening. UO is too much fun even with the thieves and
PK'ers

I understand your frustration. I used to get really pissed off at thieves
and PK'ers. I don't anymore that I pulled myself
back and realized it is really just a game. All that wealth is not real.
You should never say "after all that work to earn
that money". If you are saying this as your character that is a logical
response from him/her but if you are saying this
personnally why are you paying Origin so you can have work to do? The game
should be entertainment. Also don't take anything other people do to your
character personally. They may want you to but don't let them get under
your skin.
If get really pissed off then they win. That's what lots of them want. For
you to get pissed off personally.

I don't know if the seedier people are adding anything to the game but it is
available in the game.

Lag........... now that sucks

I have returned lots of stuff to people when they have talked to me civil
and tell me what is going on
on their side of the game. I have given house keys back to people with
civil responses reminding them
that they such keep objects such as these extremely secure because of
elements like me wandering the
streets.

I have also kept house keys when people start verbally attacting me. Not my
character but me personally.
They are lucky that I don't have the desire or gumption to wander the woods
looking for their house either.
Just keep the keys in the bank as trophies

This if for the other thieves out there and most needed by the ones who
probably can't read anyway.
If you want to play a proper thief you have to rollplay him. My thief
steals because he was brought up in a wealthy
family but thought he was an outcast. Thought Mother and Father liked his
brother better. (yes his brother is a character too). He left home and all
his personal belongings at an early age. Grew up on the streets. Views the
wealthy as fat cats not appreciating what they have. Heck they can afford
it if he steals a loaf of bread, a bit of coin, or a sword from them. He
also gives often to the truly needy of the land who deserve a bit of help
far more than the wealthy need that small item.

There is also nothing more disgusting than all the thieves in deathrobes
running around the bank. Wear disguises. It is a lot more fun to dress up
as a mage or fighter or sheep herder and ply your trade than running around
like an idiot getting waxed by the guards all the time. A thief should have
2 goals. 1: Of course, try to get as much cool stuff as you can 2: and this
is the forgotten and most challenging one, try not to get waxed by guards.

My thief rarely steals around banks. Bad place to do it. Too many eyes.
He would rather walk by and hit somebody alone on a side street who is
fumbling with a pet.

Lots of people still hate my guts for playing a thief but I have learned a
lot about the way thieves operate and little tricks of the trade by becoming
one and working with some. I take this information over to all my
characters and pass it on to my friends.

By the way, Dundee, if you have read this far, you have a great UO site.
Very entertaining. LOL

I know. Thieving gits the lot of them.

I hate them too, but I must say I like the thieves with personality.
I know a chap who has a thief and he only ever steals silly things
like apples or earrings, etc...

He's nuts, however. I think his guild is called "The Guardians of the
Grape". Don't ask me why :)

Really, what's in it for them? Thieving to get their thief stats up so they
can thieve more? To what possible end? Sure, some are financiers for legit
players, or pk, but why does someone want to deliberately make themselves the
most despised sort when there are legit ways to make money? Even pk have the
excuse that it's a weird kind of fun. Is thieving fun? Seems like a lot of
work, with no possible sense of honor, decency, or community. All it is is
disrupting and ruining other peoples' game, without even the excuse of "adding
excitement."

Boy, good thing you didn't say all that. He might have got the idea you
thought he sucked.

I'm really hoping we'll soon be able to get Them working on fixing the
Things-to-thieve's-packs exploit. I really feel this is something they should
never have put in, and really need to take out, even if it does make 1% of the
players mad.
