So I finally get enough gold saved to buy a smal house.  The only real reason I wanted one was so I could have a vendor to sell runes, scrolls, extra loot that I don't need ( I really hate hording, as I know it screws up the "respawning" of items ), and bolts.  Needless to say, I would very much like to place my house in a reasonably well-traveled area.  Unfortunately, as I am sure many of you already know, there is nowhere in the reasonably well-traveled areas to place a house.  Presumable because of the previous use of a gold-duping bug, and also because of supra-wealthy PK groups, there are houses, towers and castles everywhere.  It is frustrating enough that these buildings crowd every last open area of Britannia, but now I haven't anywhere to put mine.
Now, I would be better able to dismiss my misfortune to the addage "first come, first served", except for one thing:  At least half of the tents/houses in the high-traffic areas are virtually unused.  The vendors are and have been empty for some time now.  I am going to assume that the owners haven't quit the game and cancelled their accounts as *surely* OSI would delete there homes from the game world.  Therefore I am going to reason that the owners of these buildings have other dwellings which they do use.  So basically, a large part of this clutter is senseless "garbage".  The "coming soon" page lists the possibilty of limiting each player to one dwelling each, and providing the means to sell, destroy, customize, and better protect houses.  This seems to me to be a phenomenal idea!  It only seems fair to those of us who have strived for months to gain the wealth necessary to purchase a home ( I paid the current rate of 44,600 gold for my stone field house ).  So DD, or anyone from OSI reading this, please make this a priority upon the rep system publication and the installment of the weapons-rebalancing!  Just my HO, anyone else have any ideas regarding this problem?

The owners of these dwellings have to visit them or they go away, I believe it is 11 days.  The problem isn't houses, Lag, or resources, it is that OSI is putting too many people on a server.  If they had more servers the problems might not exist.

Hmm, I see what you are saying, I guess UO isn't so *huge* after all.   The thing that puzzles me is what are these people using all of these tents for??  The chest??  If you were only using it for storage, why be so maniacal about having it in a high-traffic area?  Of course, as I said in my original post, all open areas are jammed with houses reminescent of L.A. ghettos.  Somewhat breaks the "fantasy" feel of the game, doesn't it?

Housing patch comes after the melee weapons patch which comes after
the rep' patch which is scheduled to be put in some time before the
sun turns to dust.

I couldn't help but laugh on the last sentence :)
It will probably come before the next weekend, and it would be sad
if our sun would turn to dust before that, wouldn't it?

with the way osi is starting to behave, i wouldnt doubt our sun to turn
to dust before the rep patch is fully installed on all the servers =P

Yeah, 'cause that would mean that OSI missed the deadline, and that
would be BAD.

I have always said a wipe was in order. My reasons are that so many bugs
and exploits have come and gone, and so many increases in price, that in
order to level the playing field we need a house wipe. I know my arse
will get flamed for this by the wealthy , but it is the only way to
eliminate buildings bought with duped and exploited gold. I have a house
too that I paid 44k for and I am willing to give it up and start over.
Towers and keeps, and castles are way to common a sight.
*sigh*
Aww I dont know what we need to do here, but I hate the fact that
exploiters have gotten away with their actions. The latest vendor bug
was just another reason to wipe. Does anyone know how much gold was made
during that little bug?? I am willing to say at least a million or more
was taken from the economy. I cant imagine how far out of whack this
whole economy is. How does it compensate for being sucked clean during
those two weeks or whatever it was? There were guys on the bank roof
yesterday selling 2 story house, and tower deeds.
I best stop now.
