You may have heard of a play-run town called New Fawn, or maybe one
of it's residents like Famous Janey, or Solaria. This is a desperate
call for help from all of you on the Lake Superior Shard, and for those
that don't just create a newbie character there. Solaria, creator of New
Fawn, has gotten her account hacked. There are kEwEl dOOds that as we
speak, are destroying the centerpeice of New Fawn, Belladonna Tower.
This is happening on GM off hours so we must painfully whatch as they
lay waste. We call on all of you to head to New Fawn and please, please
stay witness to the horrid deed. We don't know how much damage there is
yet and if we will get help from OSI. We just recently started hosting
roleplaying festivals here and hope we can continue after this. Once
again please come down and show your support for us. This may show you
what could happen to other cities like Rivendell. http://hey.to/newfawn
has directions to the place. Please, please if there is one thing we ask
of you is to come down and show your support, then we may get help from
OSI on rebuilding. Thank you all in advance.

Do you have the names nad/or guilds of the people involved in the
break-in? I saw
Rohan of DSS
The Wise One
and a member of FuQ (can't remember who). If we have names, we can
sort some of these jerks out. Please let us know if there's anything
we can do.

I think we have plenty of names and screenshots. The tower has been
transfered to another player and has locked down boxes in front of the
doorway. So far though I have not seen any other people around.
Rohan: [Confused Killa, DSS]
INDOMITABLE: [Bane of Chaos, DSS]
khayman: [Slayer of Innocence, DSS]
Wisper Windman: [DSS]
The Faceless One: [Annihalus Knight, FuQ] (Chaos)
Reza: [Grave Digga, KW]
Names, courtesy of IMP (yep, I lurked their message board):
Raven DSS
Rohan: [Confused Killa, DSS]
INDOMITABLE: [Bane of Chaos, DSS]
khayman: [Slayer of Innocence, DSS]
Wisper Windman: [DSS]
The Faceless One: [Annihalus Knight, FuQ] (Chaos)
Reza: [Grave Digga, KW]
Also, apparently Bill of KW was helping against the looters?

Well... that doesn't make a lot of sense. I mean Solaria must,
absolutely, prove to OSI that it is her account (otherwise people
would be calling OSI to cancel other people's accounts all the time).
I don't see any way we can help here. She's got to get OSI to change
the password for her first - which means offering proof to them that
it _is_ her account. Getting the tower back is going to be
_impossible_, I bet, even when Solaria finally does get her account
back.

Ugh. KW was involved in this now? Preacher and other founding
members would be rolling over in their graves......
I really wish we could help, but I have no idea how....

I don't see why, if the tower was transferred away because someone
hacked her account. OSI should transfer it right back and ban the
current owner.
I would think that Reza of KW was also helping against the looters.
Umm, How do we know this person isn't just backstabbing you all?

Can anyone confirm any of this and give names of the GM or Counselors
who showed and what they said?
I talked to Counselor Doc Holiday a couple times and he was very
understanding of the whole ordeal ... but it was after the fact. He
was very interested in tracking down what was or was not done.
People think Counselors are impotent. It's just not true. If you can
clearly show them that players are exploiting bugs or hacking
accounts, they can Jail the offender on the spot.
The trick is convincing them. In the case last night, a well place
comm crystal to overhear the looters inside might had supplied the
evidence. Unfortunately, last I knew counselors cannot go invisible
..

Yep, an elder counselor was there when we showed up last night. I can
get you the name from my log file later on today. I'll have to check
about the GM. Allnames was a nightmare at the time.

Probably. Mass confusion at the time, I got the info from IMP.

I agree. I meant it would be impossible for "us" to help.

They are.

It is true.

No they can't. Counselors can take the person that paged them to a
jail or to a counselors guildhall. They can't do anything to anyone
else.
I think he thought I was behind it, so he started in with the usual,
"FUK YOU BIATCH!" yada yada yada
soooo i killed him.
Now that was really a bad day!
Worst part is I am not satisfied yet, I see him again & he dies.
Well, you know that tower deed Dundee has in his bank box? That is
really my deed. He hacked my account & transferred it to Shade.
or
even under the current system of snafu
New tower registered owner; "Hey, I paid this Solaria chr 400k for that
tower. You have no right to take it away from me."
I am not even close to the trusting type. My son just got his own
appartment & I changed my account password. At least when he was here I
could tell when he was going to login to the account. I don't want a
death due to disconnect if he were to try & login now.
Player run towns attract the worst elements. Not to build them but to
destroy.
*I KNOW* lets use a boat breakin bug, then we can.... haha!

Hey Sean, go F*ck yerself

Since when?
I paged a counselor about a guy macroing attacking mages in Wind a few
months ago after GM hours. Fifteen minutes later, the macroer and all
his mages went *poof*.
Corwin
Dundee is correct. What probably happened was that the counselor
verified your page, then contacted a gm who handled the macroer, there
are occasional gms on after hours and the counselors can contact them
if they are on.

There are GMs on after-hours sometimes. The counselor contacted a GM.
Probably via IRC.

So if they can contact a GM to take action, when we cannot ... umm ...
then they CAN do something. QED
Corwin

But you didn't say they could do "something". You said they could
jail the offender on the spot. Which they can't (unless the offender
is the one that paged them. ..seems unlikely... ).
But you're the one who said they are impotent.
In my experience, you are wrong.
It takes patience, evidence, and credibility and even though it
doesn't always help, if you follow something up with all the effort
you and your friends can muster ... good things can happen.
Corwin

Have you ever been a counselor, Corwin?

But first, you need to know _how_ to page a counselor. Seems like
most people don't.

Nope. I never found it necessary to wear a blue robe to help people
out.

Are you moving on to other topics? Sure the help button is like the
worst voice-mail system you've ever been trapped in ... but once
you've found your way thru the maze ... there you go.
Corwin
>Nope. I never found it necessary to wear a blue robe to help people
>out.
Not only is it _not_ necessary, but I found it left me feeling pretty
impotent as far as "helping people" went.
SBR does more good in one night of political infighting and attacking
their allies than most counselors do all week.
And that's not a slam on counselors. It just that they are _so_
bloody limited in what they can do.
>Are you moving on to other topics?
Sure, why not.
Okay, so counselor can *sometimes* contact a GM during off-duty hours.
Most times, we just _couldn't_. And beyond that, there's not a thing
a counselor can do beyond talking to you.
