yesterday i had a temporarly lapse in judgement and followed someone through
a gate and to their house, only to be jumped be him and another that was
hiding.

of course i died, took note of where i was, rez'd, and came back in full
plate with my DP'd GM kyrss. i stood outside the house (hidden) and waiting
for others to come through this guys gate (he'd get people in britain to
follow him to go 'loot' a house). well, evidently, alot of us werent
thinking yesterday, because i only had to stake the place out for 5 minutes
before another gate opened up with Malek(the purpetrator) and two others.

i waited for the last one to walk in and i ran in the house yelling "its a
trap, kill the bastard!", and i gave Malek a taste of DP. the other guy
comes out of hiding (the guildmaster of the Horses of the Apocolypse guild)
and i give him a little taste too. as i hear alot of GH potion swilling
=] ) the guildmaster bans me from the house. one of the guys that went in
the house was able to escape, the other wasnt so fortunate.

i spent another half hour waiting for Malek to walk of the front steps so i
could get in there and tag him. of course, he was using those steps like
kids use 'im on base!'. what happened next is what i want to know wtf. he
paralyzed me and i had to stand there for 10 seconds while i watched him
fizzle this and fizzle that before i could move again. ten freakin seconds!
does anyone else think that this is just a tad bit long to be stuck under a
paralyze spell? is it in the game like that or was his spells under the
influence of a third party prog? and my next question is, what was that
trick that i saw posted up here about how to get un-paralyzed? i think it
had something to do with magic unlocking something.....hell, i dont know.
any of you know?

Thats how it works normally. Paralyze freezes you for 10 - 15 seconds?
or until you take damage.

The trick to getting out if it is to cause yourself a small amount of
damage. The least amount of damage comes from opening a bag that has
magic trap cast on it. You will take about 2 points of damage and be
able to move again.

What's ridiculous about the paralyze spell is that it has a 100%
chance of successfully paralyzing you. If you resist, you are still
paralyzed for long enough to get off an explosion spell and maybe even
another paralyze. The only way to thwart it is to cheat by drinking a
poison potion, setting off a trapped chest, or a purple potion. Or
equip a bow.. you can still shoot arrows while paralyzed. It's a
spell made for cheap kills. One of many.

As for the whole scenario, you didn't just happen to jump on the offer
to loot someone's house, did you? I mean, what kind of a pathetic
jerk is so eager to loot and steal that he would jump on the first
opportunity to do so, no matter how far fetched - even something so
blatantly dubious as a total stranger asking other strangers to help
him loot a house.

He may of been bored and gone into the gate without knowing where it was to,
just for fun, and not to loot any houses. Or he was trying to stop the guy
in a place he could legally fight. I doubt it, though.

Ten seconds can seem like a long........ no, it can't. What a sissy.

Actually, in my first day carrying it, a stealth bank thief set it off.

I think I'm going to go have my tinker trap a chest *grin*

Yes it is ridiculous! Yesterday I got surprised by two pkers (one red and one blue), the blue would paralyze and the red, well... roast me. I got saved for three reasons; one with the reflect on, two with the speed of my horse and third running around the houses so they could never have a clear line of sight.

It is ridiculous and intolerable; it is just systematic, paralyze will never fail and you'll get wacked against such a team up unless you are lucky as I was.

By the way, thanks for the tip I read on this thread.

Even if you are paralyzed you can still KOP. Carry a KOP scroll and a stone
and you can get away easy!

What shard was this on? This Malek (Pacific) wants to know.

Umm hate to tell you this but my gm mage can paralyse for up to 40 secs..
yes definitely.. 10 secs? count yerself lucky! Also, paralyse can be
resisted.. with 87 resist I sometimes resist them entirely (I believe this
was a recent fix up by OSI)though you cant count on that. Carry MULTIPLE
magic trapped chests.. each one wastes the mage 20 mana .. purps work too. A
novel method I saw against a PK paraed by me was he targeted and clicked on
a nearby bear.. it attacked him and broke his para..he got away damn
damn....
If you know what to do and are pre-prepared para's are no big deal and waste
the mage 20 mana points when overcome..

Attempting to cast a spell while paralyzed gives you a "You cannot do
that now" message.

Huh, I must have seen the same people (or people with the same idea).. I was at
the moongate in Yew and some "respectable" guy was asking people to come "help"
him loot a house (in specific, he wanted help carrying things to the bank).
"There are two other people there already! Come help me loot it!" Yeah, if
_that_ doesn't sound fishy. I don't remember which shard it was on - Chessie or
Cats.

A lesser poison potion works great too. I've escaped from a pack of kewl
doods that way. Everytime they'd paralyzed me, I would get the "You feel a
bit nautious" and got through the para in time to heal and escape.
