Here are my top 5 favorite and unfavorite (is that a word? didn't think
so..) things about UO right now:
THE WORST:
5. General Greed - Well it's here, it's been here, and it will always be
here. Give 500 gold to a begging newbie and what do I see? He runs to
the ask next person dumb enough to fall for his pitiful cries. Not even
a thank you. And how many times have you seen people jump off their
horse in the mad rush to double click on that newly fallen Orc Lord?
4. Helpless innocents in dungeons. Since the patch, every one of my
favorite killing grounds is clogged with people in robes and a wooden
shield, yelling for heals, and begging for ressurections when they die
from monsters far too powerful for them to be fighting. Sometimes, I
miss the PKs. *sniff*
3. Guild war thieves. Every guild I'm at war with currently steals at
will from me, and with no reprocussion from the guards. And people
wonder why I have 100 piles of 1 arrow each in my pack.
2. Dungeon thieves. Yes you know the ones of which I speak, "You notice
tHiEfDeWd stealing 136 gold coin from a bone knight!" When you finally
kill your prize, the reward is gone.
1. Server Crashes - I play on Pacific and have time warped no less than 5
times in the past 2 weeks. Each time I lost a lot of effort and loot,
but on one occasion, I had recently gained the Key to a guild enemy's
house and helped myself to a little bit of his fortune. Before I knew
it, I was standing back in my house, a good 2 hours PRIOR to the
incident. *sob*
THE BEST:
5. Tough monsters. I can be a GM in everything, but that Drake is still
gonna mess me up in a one-on-one battle. The difficulty of some of the
monsters requires teamwork and camraderie, which I really enjoy.
4. Casual PKing (brought on by the introduction of the notoriety patch).
Finally, I can deal a little justice out to the jerks who spew insults,
loot mercilessly, or generally make themselves a huge pain in the neck.
I was not a PK before, nor do I plan to reach 5 murders. But every once
in a while, it's nice to be able to attack that thorn in my side.
3. Fun Events. When the town criers pipe up about an Orc uprising in
Cove, or a Zog Cabal attack in Trinsic, it always turns out to be a lot
of fun (albeit a lag fest). Even better are the seer quests (I recently
went with a seer to the hedge maze to learn about the role that naturally
growing reagents might play in the UO storyline.)
2. Gating of monsters into Dungeons. (Putting on my asbestos suit for
this one.) While I NEVER do it, I always love to see that bright blue
travel gate open up and see the people run like mad as hordes of tough
monsters pour into the spawning areas. Nobody said dungeons were
supposed to be safe, and I love it when things get a little crazy. While
I don't condone this as a PKing method, *I* like it because it tests my
abilities and reflexes. And it does clear or some of the people I refer
to above (#4 of the WORST things list)
1. Guild Warfare - Never has my pulse pounded more! It's great fun
having to watch every step you take (even in the formerly peaceful
cities); having to always be on guard for that evil member of a rival
guild to pop out of the shadows. Guild warfare (when used in a
MEANINGFUL, ROLE PLAYING manner) is a big plus. If you're a former PK
who mass declared on everyone using a macro program, just to have
something to do, ignore the previous paragraph.

This is so dad to see. Even many old-timers who probably have a tons of
gold in the bank pull this kind of rap. It's like they think are going
to find a Indestructible, Supremely Accurate Heavy Crossbox of Vanquishing
on that Orc Lord. Stupid. It has gotten to the point where if I am in a
large group I don't even bother to check the corpse. I don't really need
the gold, and I don't get as disappointed in my fellow man this way.

I think Darwin nailed this one on the head ;) Would you like a gate back
to town Mr. Newbie?

Thieves in general are getting out of hand. If it isn't the idiotic bank
thieves, it the dungeon monster loot thieves, or the ex-PK dungeon thieves
who steal from you to try to get you to attack them. Any way you slice it,
it comes up pretty foul.

Annoying as hell, I agree.

Yep. Our guild has taken to fighting the tough monsters lately and I must
say that it is a serious challenge. I'm not talking about flour sacks and
Blade Spirits either. I'm talking about seven outta ten dead from going to
toe-to-toe with an Ancient Wyrm. Ok, so we won't do that again ;)

I LOVE THIS. I have already gone after a few ex-PKs who really needed
an ass-whupping. I don't care if they are blue now and they whine because
we kill them. They made their bed... we tucked them in.

A friend and I had the entire Valor Shrine to ourselves during a massive Orc,
Ogre and Ettin attack. The two of us had somewhere arounf 25 kills each.
What a rush.

Amusing, but it is now being overly abused. OSI should put a stop to it. :(

Guild warfare is a great idea. Town fighting is not. I think towns should
be safe haven for ANYONE who can enter without the guards killing them.
