Looking at the below trace, I'd say the problem is at the ISP who hosts the
gaming server, The connection looks clean until you hit
cw-ip-eng-interconnects.WestOrange. and then it jumps up to 5X the ping
times.

well, judging by the traceroute, I would say its above.net strikes again.
You could try a different isp, if that would fix it.
