Now that some of the major issues are being (or soon to be) resoved, how about
we get back to one of the more annoying "features" of UO, roving merchants.

Why haven't they tethered these things down? It is rather annoying to have to
chase them around so that I can buy and sell. It seems to me that an actual
proximity avoidance function is in use as the merchants sometimes run away from
a customer.

-Remember: It's not a good idea, it's just the law.

Are you sure it's not just you? Have you had a bath lately?

And taming trees. This annoys me to no end. Critters can be hard to
catch and click for taming. And if you misclick and hit a tree, then
you have to WAIT "a few moments" before you can try to tame them again
(as opposed to when you click yourself - you get a "You can't tame
that!" message and can *immediately* try to click the animal again).

Using the inscription skill to copy books is bugged. You copy the
book, then have to wait a LONG time before you can copy another book.
Then you get a "your inscription selection has timed-out and has been
canceled" message (even though you just used the skill, and made your
selection).

#1 I think you're paranoid if the merchants are running from ya.
#2 I think its great and realistic for them to leave their homes. Otherwise, just
go
play DIABLO.
Confused

I know what you're talking about here...
In addition to being an Adept Swordsman, I am an Expert Tailor. (Which is
going up MUCH faster than Swordsmanship.. uh oh.)
One thing I noticed about the store in Jehlom I frequent is that one of the
NPC tailors, Kevin, has taken an extended leave of absence. He is gone. I
don't know where. I don't know why. For two full days now, no Kevin the
Tailor in the Jehlom Tailor's store.

I liked Kevin, too.. he was the one with all the money...
I asked a Counselor about this, ("Hey, sir, can you help me? The NPC tailor
is missing.") and he said that its possible someone gated him out, or that
he wandered far enough away that he wont return (What if he wandered so far
that he stepped onto the teleport pads?? THE MOONGATE??? Uh oh...)
I do wish they would tether the damn things down. Prevent stuff like this
from happening.
(Although the human rights activists would have a FIT.)

Yup. This is one of the game's more glorified irritations. What if this
happened in real life:

Me: Hi, I would like to buy this car. I have lots of money. And I will sell
you my old car for cheap.
Dealer: Excellent. An excellent choice...
<Dealer starts wandering around the sale floor>
Me: I said I want to buy the car!
Dealer: Good. I want to sell it to you
<Dealer goes outside and stands still in one place, saying nothing>
Me: Vendor Sell my Guards Bank Buy
<Dealer vanishes and reappears on sales floor.>
Me: I want to buy the car.
<Dealer wanders into a far off corner>
Me: Corp Por.
