Years ago, the original Ultima II and Ultima III games for the Apple II
series came with cloth maps of the present world and Sosaria,
respectively. ( I think it's "Sosaria". I'm trying to translate the
runes on the map, having not played it in over 10 years). The Ultima II
map shows all the time doors and where they transport you. The Ultima
III map has a picture of each town and its name in runes. Each is very
attractive and nicely stitched around the border.

Are these worth anything at all? In other words, do the present
versions of these games still include these maps, or do I have something
of a rarity?

thanks

Yes. Depending on the condition of the maps, the specific version
(for the Ultima 2 map), and the desire of the potential purchaser you
might make a nice little amount of money. Obviously a complete game
will net you more.

A complete Ultima ][ can go for upwards to $150+ depending on
which version of the game it is. The big box original version would be
worth the most.

A complete Ultima III can go for upwards to $50, depending on if
it is in mint shape or not.

From there you would have to do some fudging to figure out how
much your maps *might* be worth on auction. As with all auctions it is
the phase of the moon that most likely determines the prices. :)

The present versions (in the Ultima Collection) contains black and
white photocopies of the maps. The hint book for the Ultima Collection
has a color version of the maps on the posters.

Anyway, as far as I know Origin has never re-released the U2 or
the U3 cloth map.

Thank you for the info. As the cleaning out of my attic ensues, I hope
to find the boxes. I remember the oversized manual and box of U2; it
was an older one (in fact, the map has Sierra Online's logo, not
Origin). I remember U3 even came with a die-cast metal ankh. (or was
that U4?).

Perhaps I'll post again if I have a complete package of each.

The Ultima ][ cloth map never did have Origin's logo on it since
Origin never released Ultima ][ by itself. :)

That would be Ultima IV. Check out Underworld Dragon's The
Collectible Ultima at <http://www.scott.net/~rgregg/ultima/collectibles/>
for information on what was included with each Ultima.

I imagine that people would be interested in even partial games,
especially the big box Ultima ][.
