This post was buried in the "Argh!" thread below but I felt like it
deserved to be its own thread:

"I did it. I finished it.

Even the fiercest monsters in the game are susceptible to In Zu (mass
sleep). Once I realized that it was a matter of getting the wizards
and avater in the right positions to be able to cast them. In Vas
Por
Ylem (earthquake) was a minor help as well, with a few In Zu Gravs
thrown in to catch the stragglers (and because Julia and Toshi can
only cast In Zu once because they have so few spell points!).

By the time I got to the room on level 7 of Doom with all of the sand
traps I had amassed a ton of Negate Time, Resurrect and Summon Daemon
scrolls so after a little bit of practice I didn't really need to
take
the time to get my characters to level 8. The battles are totally
winnable with In Zu.

Ultima V is truly a masterpiece of a game. I dare say it's my
favorite of the series, even moreso than IV and VII. I'm so glad I
took the time to finish it.

I need to write up a detailed review of it sometime because I could
spend PAGES singing its praises.

Thanks to those who helped me through.

I can't believe what a great game it is. Playing all the way through
it all I felt was, Lord British went into the design of this game
saying to himself, "I want to MAKE EXTRA EFFORTS to make a game that
my fans are going to TRULY ENJOY". And he succeeded - from the
opening credits to the final Dungeon Doom - detail, detail, detail.
So much fun.

I could go on all day but everybody here basically already knows what
a masterpiece Ultima V is so I won't repeat much more. Great game.
Truly great.

I still have that save game somewhere which has me in the underworld
with one shard to go or something like that.
One day ....

Still, it is a great, great game.

Never compare yourself to the best others can do,
but rather to the best you can do.
