Ultima Online Dragons

Ultima Online that's opened up. I really think *this* is the Online version
of Ultima that is truly made for the fans of the original series. Here's
the background story.
"It has been several years since the Avatar defeated the Guardian's attempt
to invade Britannia through the Black Gate. The Fellowship has been
disbanded, and the old ways of virtue are being restored. The Avatar with
his companions pursued Batlin and sailed through the Serpent Pillars. After
some time the companions returned to Britian after the Avatar mysteriously
disappeared after restoring balance to New Sosaria. Everyone held their
breath waiting for the Avatar to return. However, history has taught the
people of Britannia that they would most likely be without the Avatar for
some time.
Ten years have passed, and mysterious forces have begun to cause tremors in
the world. Monsters have been spilling out of the dungeons, and causing
many deaths. Guards have been preventing the foul creatures from entering
the towns, but progress is being lost. People are afraid to leave the
cites. Lord British is calling for the elite to join forces, and help
defend the lands."
It's just starting but even as of now you can tell the conversations are
close to par with the Ultimas of old. All your favorite characters are
there like Sherry the mouse, Iolo and Gwenno Fizowen, Shamino, and much much
more. Also, there's quite a bit of change in the geography to reflect what
has transpired since Ultima 7: The Black Gate (make sure to drop by the ol'
fellowship hall while in Britain ;). Of course it's all free, all you need
is your UO client CD and internet access. Check out the site for more

ahead with this project. Its been very gratifying to see the world come
alive, and you guys appreciating it! This world is starting to become the U9
that I always imagined. We are busy adding as much Ultima lore as possible!
Always wondered what happend to Spark? Ruydum? We hope to add all that! Tie
up the 'loose ends' that OSI *cough* EA never did... I promise what you have
seen is just the start, and there is a lot more to come! Since they didnt
make an Ultima, I'm going to try my damnest to make the Ultima we have been
screaming for since SI.
Are there any other things that never were tied up that you guys can think
of? If you have any suggestions, there is a bbs on the UD UO site, or post
it on here ;)

Well, first, I know of two or three such projects underway, each with
its own group of people plotting and scheming for it, and each
approaching the idea from a different angle. I've generally stayed
away from such meddling for the fact that I can smell issues and
points of contention in such a creation a mile away. But I've heard a
lot about one dragon server (that went down some time ago) being
resurrected by a group on the Weyrmount, and it's got a few really
determined dragons behind it. >%)
For myself, I recently hopped onboard the Mytharria.org bandwagon,
along with some other dragons that all took up the UO free-trial at
the same time. It's an established POL server that, for better or for
worse, I've blown quite a bit of time into lately, due to the fact
it's a Roleplaying-Required shard and has a lot of interaction between
users/administrators.
I'd love to look further, but every time I try to load the URL, my
computer suddenly locks up. Not a happy camper it is, and I can't
figure out why it locks up whenever I go there. But anyway, I do have
questions, so I pop them up here.
1) How long has it been running, and on what emulator?
2) Of what size be the staff?
3) Does anyone get to use the Lord British skin?

And yes, that last question is an important one to me. ;)

I would love to see if you have any links to these projects. Darkheart has
been working on the shard with help for about a month now and seems to have
done quite a bit, although of course there's much more to be done when
changing UO to fit the "Guardian chain of events".

I took a look at Mytharria.org and while it did look well set up and
implemented, it didn't look Ultima. The UO Dragons shard would be basically
a clash of UO and U9 so you can unite and venture off together with your
friends as well as find out the answers to all the missing plot threads OSI
was so kind enough to have left us.

1) It's been running for about a month now altough he's publicized it for
only about a week. It's runing on Sphere ( http://www.sphereserver.com/ ).
2) I think there are about three people now which is sure to grow as more
and more people fill up the realm.

I'm also working on a Ultima based UO server. Unfortunately, I seem to
have put too much work into it, ironically enough, and so I expect that by
the time mine is done, most of the Dragons will have migrated to one of
the offerings already in existance. :P

is the link to mine. It is called Tapestry of Ages and is starting with
Mondain's assault on Sosaria. I've been coding on it for about 8 months
now, actually, using POL. I'm drastically changing the skill and spell
systems, which means a lot of work. Currently I have GMs making PCs and
wandering around testing some things, and once I finish my current 2
projects (getting the spellbook finished and the class system), I'll be
opening for beta test.
Mine isn't a purely dragon shard, though it is purely Ultima. I am also
inviting other roleplaying friends onto the server, even if they are not
Ultima Dragons.
The web site is currently getting updated, but before yesterday it had
been a while- my job took over my life for about a month and so it was a
month without progress.
There is a ToA-announce mailing list, which no one has yet joined aside
from my GMs, who I added to it forcefully. :>

1) On POL, and it isn't public yet. Beta soon, I really hope.
2) Two coders, 6 or 7 more GMs that help me build. How many of them will
be GMs when such a thing means administration I haven't decided yet. The
overall size of the staff will depend on the overall size of the
playerbase.
3) Yes, someone will be Lord British, someone will be Mondain, someone
will be the Lost King. They will have AIs for when they are NPCs, but at
times GMs will take them over.

I'm not really sure where they're at, exactly. The only reason I know
is because of the Moo environment, which is essentially a seperate
entity from the RGCUD environment (and thus there's no documented
evidence sitting around on Deja for me to dreg up).

Ah. Well, that probably rules me out then, because I haven't played
Ultima IX. And, as much as I probably will not care when I play it a
month or nine later, I am nonetheless a spoiler monkey; I'd hate to
know things about a game I haven't played.
Is the world mainly static as such- IE, mainly deals with UIX?
