Heh. :P Alas no. Well, maybe, but I'll sleep through it. One of the few
benefits of unemployment. Anyway, I've already won an auction for a
replacement on ebay. Unfortunately, as I'm moving on the 30th, I'm not
sure where to have him send it. I'll probably send it to my mom and have
her send it to me. *shrug*
Have you tried to hit it? I always hit my 1541 when I hear a specific
noise which tells me it's getting hitched. And I've found that hitting
it at the right place at the right time always does the trick. It became
a reflex after a while (and it wouldn't surprise me if I would hit
anything that managed to produce that same sound without thinking
first).

Hmm. Still doesn't seem to work. I'll wail on it some more, though.
It's making different sounds, now. :>

Ah, my first post through my new newsreader. Anyhoo...
As you say, it can't hurt. The symptoms are that I get the standard
"there's no data to be found" kinda noise out of it as it tries to find *.
Once I got it to boot Ultima IV to the title screen but, while loading it,
it starting not finding anything again. So, I will probably wait until I
have someone who is a bit more electronics savvy than I around before I
open it up, but I will probably do so.

Sorry, if I am wrong, but were'nt you the one that complained about a
character hittting something to fix it in a movie that the spelling of
the name of which escapes me (Armagedon? bah its a greek or hebrew
word anyway (or possibly aramaic or some other middle-eastern
language)).

That reminds me of the performance of a piece of music written for an
"orchestra" composed of dot matrix printers.
I'm serious -- it was on As It Happens (the CBC AM radio show from
6:30-8:00), sometime between a half a year and two years ago. It was on
a Friday, I know that. :)
Anyway, each dot matrix printer had a different set of ascii chars to
print ('cause each one makes a slightly different sound). I think that
even the carriage returns were scripted -- not only dot matrix printers,
but specific *model numbers* of dor matrix printers. :)
