I remember there was a key for the spellbook, as well as one for the
map (which could have been cheat only). I'm fairly sure the 't'alk
key was U7II only.
All I do know is 's'ave, 'i'nventory, and 'z'tats (2nd inventory
page/heart page alone).
I am beginning to suspect that there's some reference card I forgot
about after losing it in some Bermuda Pile[*], because I am also
puzzled where I find info on the combat modes. I've just got the
Fellowship book, the map, and the coordinates grid for the map (the
latter two hanging on the wall).
Anyone willing to help out?
Thanks.
(Having much fun running around Britannia. :) Very comfortable.)
[*] Piles of random accumulated items; what goes in may never come
out again. Thus _Bermuda_ Pile. I've got fewer now than I used to,
but there are still one I think may contain game stuff (and no, I'm
not going to dig through that now).

C - toggle combat
I - opens inventories, keep hitting to open party members packs too
Z - Ztats aka stat screen
A - audio toggle
V - version number
alt-X - quit and exit to DOS
H - change mouse from right to wrong hand (hehe)
Esc - close save/load window, or closes all open windows
That's all that's on my command card thingy. It's getting a bit yellow
with age. :(

Just don't add so much it comes alive. That can be problematic.

Thanks much! :)
Any idea about the combat modes, too? At least some can be guessed
of course, but my fuzzy memory claims there was something explaining
what they meant (but doesn't tell me what that was).
What bugs me most though is that I don't know where my notes on the
trainers are. I found some list online (back when I found rgcud,
looking for the sounds), but that doesn't mention any numbers, and
obviously values different things than I (marking other trainers as
good than I would; I do remember that the one in Serpent's Hold gave
most carrying power: 4 Stones!). But at least it did remind me that
the Avatar is better off training magic. :)
> It's getting a bit yellow with age. :(
:/
Perhaps you could put it into a transparent bag (like for documents
that get filed, where the bag has the holes for filing, not the
paper). I use them for hanging pictures on the wall, the coordinate
grid above the map (also on the wall),... You can push out the air,
fold the open end back, then tape it shut. (It's what I do.)
Alternately, bags to freeze food in should work fine, if they have
nothing printed on at least one side. (Then also taped shut. Or
perhaps the machines to seal them might work - no idea though, they
might just singe your reference card, so that should be tried with a
blank sheet of paper or cardboard first.)
I'm worried what to do about the cloth map, and was going to ask
about any experience in gently washing that. It's been hanging there
for around a dozen years... I'm worried that it'll fade or even tear
in a proper washing. (Once I've gotten it clean, I'll bag that, too,
in something transparent. And if I have to tape some smaller bags
together to get something of a size that fits.)
I've changed the subject so anyone interested in that but not the
hotkeys might look at the post. :)

Heh.
I was mildly worried before getting to the bottom of one (consisting
mostly of books, video tapes, papers, letters, old tv papers, more
letters, cat fur, dust, music tapes, an old computer monitor, more
hardware, and a broken chair or two - one of them for support), but
all I found beneath was neat carpet. <g>
And it's been replaced by a shelf now, the chairs and other junk
disposed. :)

Hmmm.
The ??? one is set to (manual) mode.
arrow small dot is (attack weakest).
arrow large dot is (attack strongest).
the one with the shield is set attack mode to (defend).
arrow 3 dots is attack nearest (berserk) - character will never flee.
arrow away from dot is (flee).
4 dots surrounding is attack (random).
shield to the side is (protect) party.
the one with the L-shaped arrow is (flank). Char will attack from the
side.

There are a number of scanned in manuals here:
http://www.bootstrike.com/Ultima7bg/manuals.html
but I don't have anything specific on the trainers.
There is a guide to the Black Gate manual that is the official Origin
walkthrough with all sorts of goodies, but I can't lay my hands on my copy
at the moment.

Well, what about the box, the trinket and the disks? I usually keep good
games in their original boxes. It's only a little yellow. Heck, I even
have the original receipt!

I keep my map in the box too. I usually put up a print out of the map on
my wall when I'm playing U7. That way I can scribble notes on it as I go.
You can find lots of the maps here:

Replacing the neat carpet with a shelf seems like an odd choice, but who

Hah, that's the site I found last night when it kept bugging me and
I went searching. :)
Some other site did have a list with what points what trainer gives.
:)

I think that's one of the things I found. I did download and save
almost everything they had there.

Well, the box is already squat. Well, one of them. For some reason I
have two, or at least 1.5 (I think we got a second version because
the guy I lived with liked it, too, and I had been planning to move
out for ages, don't know why I ended up with at least 1.5 boxes),
I've seen the top half of another while peeking at the pile with
game stuff. :)
No idea where the trinkets are (was there something besides that
silver triangle thing?). I've got at least some of the disks. (I got
the installation from some backup CD.)
(It's like that with all the old stuff; I know where, for example,
my Civilization disks are, but no idea where the manual went to,
perhaps with the guy.)
I'm glad I've got the map and the Fellowship book! :)

I did find some maps, which I mainly saved because they're cool. :)
Perhaps I should ask a friend to print one or the other out for me -
there was one that looked slightly different, but only because it
had lots of notes and (supposedly) in readable script (perhaps I got
the wrong file - too pixellated), saying, for example, who lives in
what house in Britain.
For now, I've bagged my map in something transparent, and wrote the
longitudes/lattitudes around the edge of the bag. Better than always
having to count. :)

LOL.
My cave is furnished a bit differently! ;)
Which reminds me. Does Chuckles (I think it's Chuckles' room - the
one to the left of where he hangs out, with the parrot) really have
no table? (I'm worried it might have disappeared already, there's

IIRC, he does not have a table, his room stroke me as very barebone, a

Ah, right. Nothing else vanished so far, and I went and dumped a

I guess you will have to reread the books then!

They wouldn't let me tidy up the lake (they complain at even just
moving a little garbage), so I might as well go with their prefered
method of treating the environment. <g>

No. Couldn't get into the last one I bought (Night Watch), and
stopped buying them, and even before that my reread (in the proper
order) ground to a halt with the very book I originally started
(Witches Abroad) with, unwilling to suffer those idiot braindead
witches.
