I was wondering if there are any Windows fonts available for the runic
alphabet found in the Ultima games.

You know you've been playing too much Ultima when you can read the runic
alphabet without having to look up the letters. :)

Go to the Ultima Link ( http://www.ea.com/origin/english/ultima/index.html
) and click on any of the trilogies (Ex. Ultima I-III: The Age of
Darkness). Then click on any game (Ex. Ultima I: The Original). Then
scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click on Runic Alphabet. If
you use Windows, click on Truetype runic font. If not, use other one I
guess. Oh, or you could just go to:

Well I bet all of us could do that when we are in the middle of an ultima.
If you go to a graveyard and read all the stones, you will definately be
able to translate on-the-fly.

I once had a girlfiend who walked in on me playing an ultima, looked
at the map and started reading off all the runic names, and she had never
seen an Ultima before. She just knew the runic alphabet. Heh. None of
my girlfriends ever came close to being normal, though.

Look on Origin's Ultima FTP site, under the directory 'misc':

Oh? A lot of Ultima players can do that. Now, the Ophidian runes, that's
different.....

I did my freshman english final paper on the runic
(futhark) alphabet, and to this day,
take most of my notes in classes using
this alphabet. One day, a girl thought I
was a satan worshiper because of this...
My handwriting is so bad that I can write
in runes faster and more legible than I can
with english!

Speaking of the Britannic Runes, check out my new page devoted to them
at: http://www.primenet.com/~counts/udic/runes.html There you will find
the entire runic alphabet, equivalent english letter(s), name of the rune,
meaning of the rune, and a rough pronunciation. I spent all evening on
this thing, so don't miss it and don't dis it. (=

I've already done that. :-) It's a table of all spells from U5 to U7.5
inclusive, with reagents, and has notes regarding how some spells changed
through the games.

I had always intended to add the U4 spells in with their likely counterparts but
never did. It's just a small text file at the moment, it would look good on a
web page if done up nice.

Yes, as a matter of fact there is. It's on one of the Dragon Webpages, I
think (I just dled it the other day). Anyway, it does pretty well. The
problem I have is that everytime I try to do alt+160 (symbol in place of
a space), I get a runic a followed by a space. Anyone else have this
problem?

Shoot, the first thing I did when I got Ultima 5 was sit down and learn
the runic alphabet. I couldn't imagine playing without knowing t....

No *real* Ultima fan cannot read the Britannian runes. I know all 31 runes by
memory, and I bet many of you do as well!

Heck, I take all my class notes in the runic
alphabet, in fact, I can read runes better than my own
handwriting. I even did an english paper on them,
or rather the furthic (sp?) runes which reminds me,
I understand why Origin added letters for 'Q',
'X', and 'Z' (not original alphabet), but how come
they switched the letters for 'H' and 'W'? According
to my findings, H =

Origin has ALREADY made a TrueType font, which contains both all the
Ophidian *and* Runic characters, as well as a few other common Ultima
symbols. Check their web site (www.ea.com/origin/english/ultima/).
